| Hi! I just got a 97 Intruder 800 with 8k miles on it which I already love! I've discovered the tool compartment on the sissy bar, but I can't get it open. The key will turn halfway, then it seems to stick and won't turn any farther. Any suggestions as to how to get it open? I also got 2 smooth plastic....uh, "things" - kinda like keys, but with no teeth. Anyone ever heard of something like that, maybe have any idea what the heck they're for? Just curious. Gotta say, I bought this bike for my 56th birthday. I haven't ridden since 1976 - and I put 500 miles on it in the first week! It's every damn bit as much fun to ride now as it was back in the 70's when I rode my 650 BSA. Thanks! |

| Try a little WD-40 on the lock if it is sticking. The key should rotate 1/4 turn clockwise, then you can pull the cover off. There should be alittle tool kit in there, and I always put the registration in a zip-lock bag in there also.

| Thanks for the welcome - and the tip Dr. Bob. Actually, apparently the lock mechanism was caught in the tool bag - I had to remove the rubber...uh, grommet? thing - and pull down on the bag with some pliers, working it side to side, till I finally got the compartment open. Boy, that bag was PACKED with tools! No wonder it got caught. I removed a few - and now I've got my registration, insurance card, and 10 bucks for gas in there too. I haven't ridden in 35 years....put 230 miles on the bike today without going more than 30 miles from home! I'm so lucky to live close to the mountains - some really nice roads around here. |

| Excellent! The VS800 is a great bike for the returning rider. I usually have a spare house key tucked away too.
