Default 1980 gs 550L pops out of second gear

hi im new to this forum and i was hoping someone could help me. i have a 1980 GS 550 L that a friend of my fathers gave me. Everything on the bike seems to work fine but he said that occasionally while in second gear it will pop out, what should i do to fix this problem?

It could be the selector forks in the gearbox,If you have a manual and are mechanicaly minded you should be able to sort the gearbox out.

1. with new parts.
2. or with a complete gear box assembly.
3. ghange out the whole engine.
4. Live with it until you have no 2nd gear atall.


Other members might have better suggestions.

Fresh oil may help, as well as a conscious effort to shift firmly. I've owned bikes that would jump out if I was lazy on the upshift.
