Default Carburetor Problem 1982 Suzuki GS 650L

I recently bought a 1982 Suzuki GS 650L. I ran it without problems for about 75 Miles then I cleaned off some old oil from the engine with some engine degreaser and also removed the air filter and lightly cleaned it an put it back. Now I am getting gas backflowing from the carburetor into the air box and dripping out of the breather hose from the bottom of the air box. I'm also getting smoke from the exhaust, which was not happening before the cleaning. Anyone have any idea what's wrong? I'm wondering if maybe the degreaser cuased problems with a gasket and maybe the air filter is not letting enough air through to create enoght flow through the air box which is allowing hte gas to back up. I also think there may be a small amount of gas backing up through the carburetor vent hose. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

If you put degreaser on the air filter, that probably was a mistake......regardless of what kind it is.

My guess is that you have a carb float stuck and it is just a coincidence that it happened after your cleaning. You can eliminate the air filter as a problem by running it for a short time with the air filter REMOVED. (Calm day, paved roads.....not when it's dusty).
