| I just picked up a Suzuki GS500E. My tach, and speedo gauge lights are out. I'm assuming its a fuse, but I can NOT for the life of me find the fuse panel. Or would it just be a bulb burnt out? I need your help! Thanks, Rob. |

| Newbie | i have never looked at the bike you have but i had problems finding the fuse panel on my bike. and it was under the storage compartment under the seat. the easy way to find it if not there is to go to the battery compartment and there should be at least one or two wires coming off the battery to the fuse box. | LOL. Take it easy. You can't expect much response when you post in the middle of the night. It's probably under the seat. No manual?

| Where Am I ? | If you don't have the manual, you can get em online. I just did a quick google search. Haynes Suzuki GS500E 1989-2002 Repair Manual H3238 If you search further, you may actually find one for free. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! BTC

We are now 12 messages into the thread and I have forgotten what bike you have. It would be helpful if you would fill out your profile....PLEASE !!?? Someone has given you a reference to an online manual; please use it! Maybe someone with a bike like yours will chime in but you ARE going to have to figure some things out yourself.

| I'm all for learning on my own trust me. Only reason I'm so anxious to figure this out is because it is my daily driver at this time and it is mostly ridden at night. So you can imagine it is vital I fix this soon. Sorry to clutter things up, and I appreciate everyones help. |

| Don't get me wrong, we LIKE having you here. The more the merrier. Sometimes, however, the little things are the most important............like telling us what bike you have, either in your profile OR in current messages you post. I asked nicely and you did neither. That is a little frustrating.

| Fixed the lights on the bike. Then realized the guy who sold it to me let the oil level sink well below the dipstick line. It took one quart to fill it to the medium point on the dipstick between High and Low. Jeez.... While I'm on that topic, is there a speicifc kind of oil that works best for bikes? It says 10W-40 on the cap, so I picked up some conventional Valvoline 10W-40, this stuff is ok to use right? Just double checking.

| Be careful to never use the 'Energy Efficient' 10W40's. The additives will cause your clutch to slip. Remember too, this is a wet clutch which means the transmission is filled with the oil - watch your oil levels. If you go too low or too high ( high = really bad ) you may have trouble shifting once you're stopped. Also, use the synthetic 10W40's. They are much better for your bike. I have a 2007 GS500F so it's newer but the engine hasn't changed much since then. 10W40/10W50 will both work fine. If you live in a climate that doesn't get below freezing, you can use 20W50 instead. This will coat everything a bit better ( though, at first the engine has to work a bit harder to get everything filmed up nicely so be sure to always let your engine warm up properly before operating it ). It's a good bike. I like mine thus far. P.S. The fuses are under the seat.
