Exactly the point I was trying to make but he seems to be stuck on a new switch for maybe 5X that amount.

dear everybody

i got a new switch today for 7 bucks.
installed in 10 minutes.
broke into the seat and put in a new latch without a lock for 2 bucks and put on a different gas cap for 10.

all in all i got out of it ok i think.

the locksmith told me it would take him a few days and i was looking at about 75 bucks.

maybe i should have done it maybe i did the right thing who knows its done now i guess

i had to get this stuff down like this weekend because i move to boston next weekend and i need to get this bike sold.

friend offered me 800 for it. which is 50 less than i paid and i took it. he said he was fine with the seat not locking so i guess its ok.

yeah it was just a generic switch from advance auto parts.
i had to use a different mount to attach it to the bike but all in all it worked

If it hasn't been said yet....don't panic. Just take the ignition you have (that works! no need to buy a new one) to a professional locksmith and say, "Can you make me a key to fit my bike ignition, here's the ignition?" Shouldn't take him long, and won't cost an arm & a leg.
