91 Vx 800

I'm a new rider, well will be, once I learn to ride, I'm looking for information on the bike I bought. What are some thoughts on this bike? It may be redundent, but it is a 800. It has 5,800 miles on it. Good bike, bad? Reliability? I know it's too late since I've already bought, but would like to know before I get on it.

I'm not familiar with that model. Folks here will chime in, just give it time.

Use the search and look up " Beginners Guide" and " new rider". Lot's of good stuff.

The VX800 was a very short lived model, sold for two full and one partial year. It was intended to be a sort of standard pattered after the universal Japanese motorcycles of the 70s, but with a v-twin cruiser-type motor. People who like standards hated the v-twin motor, people who like v-twin cruisers hated that it was a standard, so it did not sell well at all.
However, over time it has developed a cult following. When the bike was discontinued the motor ended up in the Intruder 800, and is still in production in the S50. The motor has a legendary reputation for durability, and I personally put over 135,000 miles on one.
The VX800 has an excellent motor, combined with a standard seating position that is more comfortable than a sportbike. Great power and torque, good lean angle, good brakes, decent ride quality, decent handling (both can be improved with Progressive shocks and fork springs), large and pretty comfortable- the bike is far more sought after today than when it was new. I wouldn't mind having one myself, with a set of hard bags for sport touring.
In short, ya done good.
