Default suzuki vs1400 reserve switch

I just bought this Suzuki vs1400. I have run out of gas twice now. Apparently the reserve switch is either not working or I don't know the correct position. I did not get the user's manual with the bike. Does anyone have a picture or somethig so I can know for sure which position it's supposed to be in? It could also be broken- but let's hope that's not the case.

Thanks in advance...

Usually there's a small arrow cast into the lever. It's not always with the longer leg.

If someone has had the tank off, the gas line hoses may have been reversed. I'm not sure how the VS1400 is plumbed, but my Intruder 1400 (S83) has two gas lines that go from the bottom of the tank to the petcock. If they are not hooked up correctly, they will cause this problem.
