Default need help with my "new" bike

Hey, I just bought my first bike which is a 2000 gsxr 600. It has 20,000 miles on it. I rode this bike for two weeks now and have not had any problems until the other day. When I wind out the gears and hit about 11,000 rpms My bike just shuts down or gives out and backfires. It wont shut off though, I can switch the gear or engage at a lower rpm and I will be fine. It almost feels as if it is missing a spark or misfires or something. But the problem is only at the high rpms. I have had no problems besides for this. My buddy of mine looked at my bike the other day and we checked the spark plugs which were fine, checked the fuel filter and that was fine, checked the air box and that was all in tact and damn near brand new. He told me that he was stumped and didnt know what it could be. could this be a timing issue or no? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Don't know about your bike, but I think I read that C50's have an RPM limit switch to protect the engine at high RPM's. I guess when it gets to that point is shuts it down somewhat. Never been there, so don't know.

May not be your problem, but worth a check.
