Default Super-Standard Riders...We Are Alone!

I have no idea who to ask...but is there any chance of getting a category for those few of us who ride super-standards (B-King, K1200R, Ducati, Triumph, MV, KTM "nakeds", etc.)?

I realize that we are a tiny group here. But, there might be more if our category was listed. Personally, I'd like to "hear" from the other guys out there and what their experiences are on their respective bikes.

Thanks

B-Rex

I'm only packin' a paltry 104 horsepower.....I don't think I'm allowed in the club.

If I remember correctly your Buell is a "dual-sport" on/off pavement bike. A lot more versatile than a super-standard.

Get a Bee or a K1200R off the road and I'd bet we'd sink like a rock. My Bee gets testy even when encountering a bit of sand or gravel. I can't even imagine (nor do I want to find out) what it would do on a trail. At 580 lbs. wet, I'd be like a beached whale floundering in the sand (essentially an 181 hp "brick").

Eh.....

They'd have you believe that in the advertisements.......

I think you'd be really pushing it on no worse than a fire-break road. The tires are suited more for street than anything.

There is the Bandit Lair for you B-Rex. After all, it may have a Busa engine but, it's still a Bandit at heart.

Nah, the B King is it's own animal. It's ability to do everything from track riding to touring tickles the heart of Bandit owners. It's going to be great to see the different ways the B King get's set up. I'm dying to see what the aftermarket comes up with.

Versatility. It makes it a Bandit at heart ( not a Bandit ). Didn't mean to get you riled up.

Your not alone. Feel that? Can ya? That's the "standard" love surrounding you. Group hug?

LOL.....sorry, didn't mean to sound snappy....I like the fact that the Bee is different...just wish there were more folks around that rode bikes in the same class. Kinda nice to BS about similar issues at times. Ah well....

(I don't know much about Bandits though...but Suzuki does "borrow" a lot from their other models)

The Bandit is basically a "jack of all trades and master of none". Suzuki basically designed an updated UJM frame (steel) with more aggressive rake and trail and then wedged a slightly modified GSX-R 1100 motor into it. Suzuki then offered the bike with a very affordable price point.

Bandit's are easy to modify to meet the users needs. Suspension upgrades, luggage, bars and risers, windscreens, etc. Go fast parts are also plentiful. Tons of GSX-R parts are nearly bolt on or straight part swaps ( like heads and cams ).

The B King should benefit in the same way. Plenty of go fast goodies due to the Busa and when the after market gets involved, there should be tons of other specialized trick bits for the B-King.

I'm looking forward to seeing one in person. So far I haven't seen one in a dealership.

The B-Kings are pretty impressive looking when you see them in person.

At the stealership, I was standing between a Bandit, and a B-King, and I was reminded of an add that I used to see all the time when I was a kid, it was on the back cover of all the comic books, and in the first picture it showed a 98 pound weakling on the beach getting sand kicked in his face by the beach bully, I forget exactly what it was they were selling, but what ever it was, the 98 pound weakling had bought it, and in the last picture he is bristling with muscles. Sorry if I'm insulting all you Bandit owners out there, and I know Bandits are no 98 pound weaklings, but sitting next to a B-King, they do kind of look like one.

It's already large gas tank has what appears to be air intakes attached to it, making it seem verry muscular, espically compaired to the Bandit setting next to it. I know a motorcycle doesn't have shoulders, but the term "big shoulders" seems to fit it. I got the same impression the first time I saw one of the new 1125R Buell's.

I think that's what keeps me from liking the bike... all the extra junk that looks tacked on to me. It's too busy.

I have to admit that there are certain styling doodads on the Bee I don't love. There is a lot of plastic bits which I realize save weight (and money for Suzuki) that I could truly live without (i.e. the exhaust can sleeves). But overall, the thing really works.

Slowly but surely, as the parts become available, I am replacing bits with carbon fiber composite just so I don't have to look at the plastic. In fact, just had carbon fiber tank protectors installed. Next I'm looking to replace the stock exhaust cans with Micron's gorgeous carbon fiber ones (just don't have the money to do it right now....god they're really expensive). Supposedly, there are carbon fiber airboxes under development with actual ram fins. God knows when they will be available and how expensive they will be.

At the same time, the 'Busa used to catch all sorts of flack for looking "weird" and it turned out to be Suzuki's best-selling super sport. Though, I realize the Bee will never be as popular because of its "different" appearance. Hopefully, it will be popular enough that the aftermarket continues to make new parts.

aftermarket air intake/boxes on the B-King and the 1125R are the thing I'm most interested in seeing.

Buell is paying out pretty good race contingency money. I'm really interested in what race body work will look like for it. Would be cool if Sharkskinz or someone would put out some for the B-King.

They never did for the Bandit
