Default how about a special room ....

How about a room that is controlled by a user's group where the heated topics can be moved to instead of closed? It seems like everytime a topic gets a little heated it gets closed. Why not create an area that people have to request access for to beable to view and post? Then, if you can't take the heat, keep your arse out the kitchen! That it! Call it the Kitchen!

Let's not forget it's a motorcycle forum. Political debates ALWAYS turn into name calling contests, never fails.

Yup. Those type of forums just add a sour note to our happy little family. There are plenty of other places for that.

I know it's a motorcycle forum but we also have the "Off Topic" page which leaves things wide open for off topic threads. So what if a name is called once in awhile. A forum is supposed to be a place where people can speak there mind. Instead, it seems to be a very sensored forum.

We have never tolerated disrespect here. If people can debate without name calling, we wouldn't have this issue. History has proven otherwise. Sorry if you feel that we censor too much, but respect is a value of significance on this site.

A forum is supposed to be whatever we want it to be. If we don't want unpleasant discussions that leave people upset, we won't have them. Free speech does not apply.

I've been a member of such sites, and there is always a bitter taste to them. There's no way around it.

There are some ongoing debates in threads that haven't been closed do to the fact that no personal attacks have taken place, it's not the debating that is the issue it is the personal attacks and offensive remarks that we don't need. I don't believe we are sensoring anyones political or religious views just there ability to make personal attacks.

Fair enough! I wanted to throw that idea out there and get the Mods opinions on it. Thanks for your response.

My response would be to deal with the offending individual instead of closing the thread to all participants.

Far be it from me to tell anyone how to run their forum. Golden rule sez man with the gold makes the rules ....

Would that it were that easy, AZ. In most cases it wouldn't be one individual but several that get the lashing for being overzealous. This just occurred in a recent thread.

This is the only forum that I subscribe to, and for good reason. The other threads that do not "mediate" (not censor) that type of outburst have, as Clint said, a bitter taste to them.

Besides, it's not like they stop all this type of activity at the drop of a hat. They usually wait until it is on the brink of destruction. I think it's fine the way it is. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the support (except you, Tim ). Sometimes I question my own practices. It's always a balancing act.

Know I haven't been around much lately but as I remember it the theme here is "Family Oriented". And I don't mean the Osborn family ! .
