Angry Learning your bike

I know most of us have been riding for a while and we think we know our bikes pretty well. But how many of us could replace something major? My question is how do most of you learn how to upgrade or repair your bike? Do you just watch and learn, trial and error, go to school for it or take an online course? I know the online course probably seems the most unlikely, but for those of us that are overseas this is probably the best option.

For me it was a learning curve from bicycles to lawn mower engines to dirt bikes to streetbikes to racebikes to cars. Along the way the thing that helps most is experienced people and the knowledge and advice they can give when you get stuck. It can't hurt to have the shop manual either!

Experience, patience and a good manual. When that fails, ask the guys online.

Wait. Ask them first.

Luckily for me, I have officemates that are int bikes too... I get tips from them on how to repair/modify my bike. It also helps understanding the mechanics of how things work...

I have not yet come to a problem on both of my bikes that needed to be fixed. Well, besides the normal change of oil, tires, etc. etc. I have a ton of guy friends that help me with those things, I do own a bag of tools somewhere on that bike, don't I?? LOL Knock on wood, I won't need to find them anytime soon... -

I leave the maintenance to the shop, I bought my bike to ride, and if i have four hours to work on it-Id rather use those four hours to play with my daughters, golf, or do something else.

Yeah, but how many hours did it take you to earn the $300 you spent?
