Lightbulb Newbie to motorcycle's

HI, I just purchased a SV650S today off EBAY! Follow this link if you would like to see it on ebay! Anyways, looking over the bike today it looks almost brand new. Only has 21.7 miles on it. My question is The bike starts up's and runs fine. But, it was purchased in October of 2003 and is now almost 2 years old. It still has the original gas in it from the dealer ship which I know needs to be burned out. But, what else do I need to do? I dont have a owners book with the bike. He said I need to break the engine in which has not been done yet. What about the other fluids brake fluid, engine oil ect..... Is there anything I should be aware of? I'm brand new to bikes and this is my first one I let it run outside today for about 10 mins no oil leaks and the temp was around 185. It idles just fine and seems to run nice and smooth. Thanks for any help on break in and what else I need to do. Also, I'm not driving the bike atm until I take a safety course next weekend so I'm pretty much just things I can do in the garage or drive way atm I cant run it down the road atm. Thanks!

James

I'd change the oil right away to your favorite mineral based oil and drain and refill the gas tank (or at least treat it with Seafoam to help clean the carbs). Get an owners manual and a Haynes or Clymer ASAP. Lube the chain if it's dry. Check the tires for proper pressure (find the sticker) and check for dry rot.

First, though, get some gear. Read up in this forum about what a new rider needs to do to be safe. Get some training. Motorcycling is serious business.

Welcome to the forum!

Wow who buys a new bike and then never rides it, that's just crazy. The wife-guilt alone would have had me putting some miles on it

Good deal for you though!

That's one sweet steal you got there... I'm not sure where you are (what state)... but I think there are rules about what bikes you can have in your state. Like if you look at some of the suzuki models, they have something written (for CA) meaning, the bike is sold in California with a particular modification (exhaust for example). You might want to check out your local dmv for things you need before you can register it. Now, if you're also from texas... disregard my advice.
