Default I need help figuring this one out!!

Does anyone know what the actual top speed is on a 2003 GSX-R 600? I get it up to about 157 and then it just hangs but I rode with some guys that all ride Busa's and they said i was going alot faster than 157. Its just a big debate because my buddy has a 2004 CBR F4i and he said he got his bike up to 177 I'm not buying that for a minute but maybe he's right. Someone please help!! And just for the record we are all riding on an old closed down freeway so we are being as safe as possible.

Indicated speed, actual speed, gear ratios, blah blah blah. It's all just big talk.

get a gps unit and mount it to your bike. That will give you true speed and will record max speeds. You can get an el' cheapo at Wally-World that will work just fine. I have mine mounted to my top triple.

Hondas are NOTORIOUS for reading high. Suzukis tend to be more in the ballpark.

The fastest I've ever been on my speedo was 167 but I'm sure my actual speed was more like 150ish.

There's about a 15% error in speed once you get up there in the mph.

Buy or borrow a GPS receiver - every bike is slightly different. My bike is about 4-8% off, depending upon the speed. When it shows 60 on the speedo, my actual speed is about 52. When it shows 120 on the speedo, I'm actually doing about 112. And when I'm approaching top speed, I don't look at the speedo...I'm watching those tiny specks on the horizon quickly coming closer and getting bigger.

'Indicated' top speed I have seen on my K1 is 172.
You should at least match that.

Haha, I just got my SVs up to 143. I still have a 1000rpms to go before i even get near the red line, but it would take a lot of track or road.

supatroopa, hit bikez.com and search your bike. It will show you the top speed according to the manufacturer's specs.. but maybe the "actual" is higher, if you cranked it that much..

It all depends on your aerodynamics for the last 10 20 mph.
If you have a flappy jaket it won't cut it

Doesn't matter where the redline is. It's about aerodynamics at that speed. Most bikes won't ever hit redline in top gear.

Old thread, but what model GPS do you bikers have? I'm looking at a Garmin eTrex Legend GPS.. it's a color handheld one on eBay for 190 bucks [item 5833572036]. I get lost everytime I leave town.
