| This is my first post here. I have never ridden a bike before and I do not even know where the gas is right now. I am in the process of signing up for the MDS course with Gateway Tech college in Elkhorn WI. the SV650S is a gorgous bike. I would like to purchase 1 bike. To learn on and keep till it dies idealy. This bike seems like it would have enough power for me. I'm 25 years old and don't plan on raceing it. But using it for cruiseing, short and long distances. I was concidering a Honda 600 F4i but I was told the 4 cyclinder motors are not as forgiving or I wouldn't use the power unless on a track or something compared to a VTwin. (I don't know what the difference is between those types of motors, but I know Harley's use VTwins as well. In the future I would have a passenger, but I don't plan on that till I have ridden the bike for at least 1 or 2 years. I am 5'7" tall and weigh 145lbs. I will hopefully take the MDS course this year in august or october but I will not buy a bike untill next year most likely. I don't really want to puchase a less expensive bike since I never want to get to the point where I'm going 100mph ever. 75 or 80mph will be fast enough for my needs. Thanks for any suggestions |

| Muscle Biker ![]() | Welcome ... use the search function to look for "noobie" ... there's lots of information around here. In a nutshell, you should start with a used bike - buying a new bike to learn on will just cost you more $$$ when you drop it. And you will drop it - we all have.

I'm not sure what you meant by the quote above, but top speed is no way to choose a bike. Even the smaller sportbikes easily eclipse 100 mph. It's acceration and handling that are important. You buy a bike that accelerates quickly, you get yourself into trouble that much easier. The SV is a decent choice for a first bike, but consider getting a used one or an older bike for a year or two. It's worth it.
