Default Crunch time...need more advise!

Well guys,
Now that I got the bike back, along with a ramp I got from ebay, I did a practice run with the bike putting it in the truck...and let me tell you, that sv fills up the whole bed...and I'm a little more nervous now hauling it to michigan. I tied it down with the rachet straps in the front to the handle bar grips...is that good enough...I mean...wont those grips just come right off if I gotta take evasive action at 65mph on the highway...? I'm getting two more straps and achoring the rear frame to the rear of the bed too. I'm just worried about those handle bars, can they take the torqe of the rachet straps? Tomorrow I'll load it up again and take some pics and post it if you want. I know I asked you about this before but now the time has come to haul it and I'm a little weary. Thanks guys.

If you do it right, it ain't going nowhere. I used to tie the old Interceptor and GPz I had with ROPE. I was a poor college kid, couldn't afford tie downs. The rope worked great.

Well, be advised that my handle bars aren't one unit...they've got one piece at the top of the fork, and two separate grips.

Yeah, they're called "clip-on's". Every sportbike since the early-mid 80's has them.

Unless your bike has Woodcraft (or other aftermarket) racing clip-ons, there are usually safety features that keep those clip-ons attached to the triple tree so that they won't spin when tied down. Either a notch that the clip-on rests in, or a bolt that holds it in place, or both.

Great! Plan on keeping the rear window open so I can keep my eye on her and stopping ever 40 or 50 miles to check the tension. Thanks again nut.

You should only need to check the tension once after it settles in, unless something happens. If you hit some rain they may loosen a little, but it sounds like you're worried enough that they will be plenty tight. Just don't over tighten and damage something.

Don't be worried......I brought my bike back to NC from NY on a 5x6, wood planks, and no springs trailor. That trailor bounced from one lane to the other. I tied it down with the "pull tight straps", and never moved an inch, and you know how the roads are up north
