| So this weekend I decided to tear my kat apart. It all started out with just wanting to put these new sprockets and chain on. which i must say are pretty nice, $150 off ebay. since i had the rear wheel off i decided to paint it flat primer black instead of the gay purple. Well i pulled off all the fairing and painted them too. then i remember my engine is quite noisey so i decided to adjust the valves. I bought a manual last week. anyway i check the clearance and all the valves are at the edge or out of spec, so i take my shims up to the suzuki dealership where the guy lets me swap my old for his new! and he says that the kat 600 head is a nut and screw not a shim type and that i most likely have a gsxr head on this thing. Is this true? the manual did not specify, here are some reasons why i think the head may have been changed i can tell the headgasket has been replaced the exhaust had rubbed against the lower ferring and melted away what was close (i cut off the melted ****) The oil filter will not come off with the header on and there is a slip on, not that it really matter the bolts hole hanger thing on the side on the header near the slip on dont line up with anything dont know what carbs are stock but these have mikuni on them, dont know if its been rejetted where can i find an engine code or a stamp on the head or something any help is much appreciated thanks burke |

| GSX-R 750 was a popular choice to swap in there. And, if it is shim, then you know it is only the '90-'92 GSX-R 750 O/C motors that were like that. Wouldn't surprise me a bit. - Nut

| Yeah you can swap the cylinder head on the old gsxf's with their counterparts from the gsxr line, a mechanic whom i'm trust informed me of this and got me thinking about doing it for a while.
