Hello, I am new to this site but not to motorcycles, riding them that is. I am mechanically inclined, unfortunately I have not had much experience with carburators as all cars now use fuel injection. I went against everything I do know about carbs at the end of the riding season last year and left a full tank of gas in my bike. I recently took the bike out for a ride on one of our warmer days this year and realized what I had feared. The engine has a flat spot on the bottom of acceleration. If I throttle through it the bike runs fine. I expect that the jets have become dirty and will nrrd to be cleaned. This is where my question comes in. Will the carbs need to be removed and cleaned. (taken apart) Or can they be sprayed on the bike like may people don on cars? If they do need to be removed I can handle it, I have the service manual. But will they need to be completely reset up and synchronized again? This is where I am stupid. Also, last year I put a slip on Yoshimura on, (for sound mainly) and actually noticed a slight decrease in power. Should the carbs have been rejetted at that time? If so what stage? I want to keep the bike maintenance free like it has been. Finally, any thoughts on K&N air filters? I loved them on my cars. Oh yes, one more thing. Is the 99 model year affected by the oil burning? I appreciate any replies, Thanks, Mark |
