| if you were my g.f. I would've been happy with the plug in cheaper indicator. But since I don't know what will make you'r b.f. happy I can't speak. Any way with the cheaper one he'll be able to tell the gear he's on as well as with the more expensive one, the only difference is that the cheap one gets a bit confused for few seconds, when the cluch is deppressed/obviously when shifting/ and the bike has to moove to indicate the gear. Concidering, that I wonder about what gear I am on, only once in a while /when I loose track of the shifting, hence a quick glance puts me back on it/ the dissadvantages of the cheaper version are close to zero in my oppinion. On the other hand your b.f. may be really proud of you, spendig all the money and giving him this indicator, that not so many others will buy and posess... I don't know. Maybe the best is to kind of ask him obscured questions about his prefferences.

| Muscle Biker ![]() | Personally, I think a gear indicator is unnecessary, since I'm not a track rider. Occasionally, I try to upshift from 6th, but it's pretty obvious that the shift lever isn't moving anymore. (And if I look at the tachometer, I know when I'm moving at 120kmh and the bike is turning at about 3'500rpm, I'm in 6th already.) And since I have trained myself always to drop the bike into 1st before I stop at a signal, there's no need at the low end either. If you b/f is riding on a track, I would recommend to get the best you can (not necessarily most expensive) - considering readability and weight. If he wants it just to be cool on the street, get the cheapest one. Just my $0.02.

| What kind of bike does he have? I don't know if I'd recommend an alarm system, especially if he has a sport bike. Sport bikes are prime targets for theives and if a thief really wants it, a thief will get it. All bike alarms really do is deter inexperienced theives and give you a false piece of mind. The pros know their way around alarm systems. I've seen stories of bikes with alarm systems and chained to something and stolen. I've also seen stories of bikes stolen from inside a garage while the owners were home. Theives are getting better and better. I would save the money from the alarm system and get him something else. He does have insurance, right?

| Newbie | Yeah he was talking about how some thieves cut some wires (I don't know which ones) and can steal the bike even if it does have an alarm but I guess the top of the line scorpion has some type of back up system, I think... I don't pay attention all the time when he talks about bikes sorry, which is supposed to help more. Its sad we can't even go to the mall because he's paranoid about leaving his bike outside and he definitely doesn't like to ride to my house and leave it outside b/c I live in an area that is known for stealing bikes... even though he has insurance but I guess I would be like that to after all the time and money he has put into his bike. oh and if any of you were wondering what color his bike is, it's black and orange and the stuff he has on it are: PARTS: Frame Siders Lowering Links R&R Fender Eliminator GPR Stabilizer (Orange) Puig Windscreen Double bubble Akrapovic Full EVOLUTION 2 Exhaust System (all TI) Dynojet Power Commander III USB BMC Air Filter Hotbodies Undertail Greggs Custom Flush Mounts Michelin Pilot POWER tires I can send a picture if you guys want Last edited by Irishpride619; 05-31-2005 at 09:10 PM. |

| Newbie | " I don't pay attention to him all the time..." meaning that I don't know if its the back up system that the top of the line scorpion has that is supposed to be a good thing, my b/f has talked about it to me before but I didn't pay attention. I listed the stuff that my b/f has on his bike and the color of it because a couple of you wanted to know what he rode so i added a little more to it on the second post. -- sorry if its confusing, its been a long day |
