| Newbie | I just ordered a K&N, but i have been reading that they aren't any better then the stock and they can have a bad effect on the bike..here is what I have heard about the K&N filter 1. They come with too much oil and need to be cleaned and lightly oiled 2. They aren't any better then the stock 3. You are going to need to remap to get the best effects I have a 2003 GSXR 600 I just need to know if I should keep it or send it back and get the fender eliminator kit? I just need some clearification on the filter issue. Thanks

| Seat Tester | I have the same bike. 2003 gsxr 600. I use a K&N in every single vehicle I have including bikes, cars, trucks, everything. I like them because they flow better, are re-usable, and are a good investment for something your going to keep around for a while. Basically everything gixxerdale said I agree with. I'm going to put a K&N filter in my bike when the stock one gets dirty and Ineed to replace it. I have a slipon exhaust on the bike already. Don't invest in a powercommander or time to get your bike re-mapped from these 2 modds. chances are they don't have enough of an impact on the flow of the bike that you'll have to get one. My bike runs fine with the exhaust on it because it's a slip on not full system. When I get the air filter on i'm going to take the bike to the local shop and put it on a dyno. From that dyno run they can tell if the bike is running rich or lean. If it's running lean, then yeah invest in the powercommander and have the bike remapped. If it's fine then you just saved yourself a crapload of money and wasted time. basically. get a K&N once you need to change the stock one and then take the bike to a dyno to test for any lean/rich conditions. it's only about $40.00 for a dyno test like that. |

| Airforce I gave you or someone some pretty good advise on what to do in the situation in a previous post. Check it out. Watch listening to other people especially people that say their bike runs fine. Without a dyno most people have no idea of how their bike is running. Bikes come from the factory running lean because of strict EPA standards. Some users on this site dont understand the concepts of airflow which I have thoroughly researched and tested tuning motors for years. I still learn something new daily. Also lets not get confused on the Power Commander its a tool not a mod. Its for on the fly tuning. People that buy it use it, its not something you buy and set once a season.

| Seat Tester | I guess people who operate a dyno and do it for a living must not know anything about airflow?? call up a dealership that has a dyno and ask him what to do. he'll tell you the same thing I just did. put it on the dyno and have it tested for a lean or rich condition. plain and simple. and it'll save you money! PS. most people I know, actually all the people I know spend a good amount of money to get new maps to make their bike run better and smoother using the powercommander and trying different settings while running on a dyno. who ever would tweak those settings by themself using "the butt dyno" or any other method throughout the season is just plain stupid. although if you go to a dyno every other month looking for a 1/2 horsepower then that is your decision. |

| Wolf69- My intent wasnt to sound snotty it was just informational. Airforce - I think as far as your issue a power commander is not what you need I would just spend 20 and go have a dyno session. If I came off like an ass its because I was having a bad day (and years of practice) Im truly and good brother and will offer anything I know to you but like I said I learn something new everyday.
