| Hi I just bought a "04" GSX-R600 Today. I got insurance with Geico which was very high, but it was the best I could find right now. I just wanted to know about any other insurance companies that I might get a better deal from. I'm in NY. Thanks |

| The insurance that I use I think is only local, (MN) it's called Dairyland...pretty cheap! But, I've heard several people on this forum talk about state farm. Being 36, depending on your driving record, you should be able to do okay as far as price...

Now I have a question ( not singling out GIXSIX ) but this comes out often. Why do we keep getting these insurance questions after the fact. Is it because I'm anal ? ( no need to respond , my ban finger is twitchy ), is it because I earn my living managing my boss's money? or because my wife is an accountant ?. People go out and buy bikes (and or cars), they already have a list of mods they want to do to the bike, they know what exhaust they want, what power commander they're going to put on , etc..... Yet when it comes to insurance, that has never been looked into seriously. Before buying I always take the time to call my insurance brokers ( actually I usually call at least three to be on the safe side, have found that they take different percentages ) and find out what the premiums will be. If I'm debating between two bikes the insurance premiums may sway me towards one or the other. Using a phone this takes me about an hour at most and can add up to substantial savings. Hey I'm 46, clean driving record, no claims, 800cc cruiser. That puts me in about the lowest insurance risk bracket out there, yet I got quotes between $350can and $800can, now thats a huge discrepency in prices. BTW I didn't choose the lowest price because that company according to my information always finds ways to avoid paying the full repairs. So before choosing a policy based on price do your homework and find out if people have had problems when making claims. If you save a $100 on the premiums but get nothing in return that's not a deal at all.

| I'm 35. Progressive wanted a small fortune and I have nothing on my record for the past 4-1/2 or 5 years (knock on wood). And nothing on a bike (more knock on wood). Progressive asked the make and model and then quoted me. It was almost $1,800 per year. I do have my HD through them, BTW - about $345/year. State Farm asked for the make and displacement - NOT THE MODEL. On my proof of insurance it states that my bike is a "SUZUKI 599CC MTRCYCLE". I pay about $620 per year. That's with $250 collision and $100 comp I think. I've heard of people getting cheaper, but after what progressive said, I wasn't arguing. I think that the area where I live causes the price to be higher than some people's. For what it's worth.
