Try Dairyland (don't know if they are still around) or Progressive (although Progressive has been pulling some fast one's lately so I hear - raising prices). Geico is getting into the bike insurance biz too. I think State Farm will insure them, but rumor is they are high.

You definitely have to shop around. When I got my first bike, a Ninja 500, I had a hard time finding someone to insure it. Geico, at the time, insured all motorcycles EXCEPT the Kawasaki Ninja line. Go figure. I tried Progressive next and in less than five minutes, they flat out told me they would not be able to insure me because 1. my age and 2. the bike was classified as high-performance. I tried State Farm next and they wouldn't insure the bike unless I moved my car under them also. Since I would have been paying more on car insurance with them than I was currently paying, that option was out. Luckily, All State was willing to insure me reasonably without needing to include my car on the policy. A couple years later I switched both vehicles over to USAA and I've been happy ever since.

I tried USAA at one point w/my bike (I have house, car etc. w/them). Unfortunately, for me they wanted more full coverage $$$ per year than the bike was worth, even liability was steep with them for some reason. I stuck w/Progressive because of the cheap liability ins.

Maybe on a newer bike they would be more receptive? Dunno! Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to find out!

I swear I'll never understand insurance companies. I checked with Progressive for my bike just to get a comparison. They wanted nearly double what I pay with State Farm.

I have my insurance through bike-line.com. it was only 349 per year liability on my 04 gsxr 750. that was the cheapest i found with my great driving record.

If you're under 25 there is no cheap insurance.

Progressive seems to be kind of hit and miss...they gave me a great rate on my bike when I had just liability..way better than the other major insurance companies but when I decided to stick full coverage on it! No thanks, Im shopping around now.

Ask your dad if you can put the bike your dads name and insure it that way. I had to do that with my muscle cars when i was that age. Saved me big bucks.

When you ask about insurance price, be sure to specify what coverage you need.

If you are getting a loan, you'll very likely be required (by the bank) to have collision (covers the bike in case you have an accident), and comprehensive (covers the bike for non-accident related damage, such as theft or vandalism).

Also, it is a good idea to carry liability (and many states require it). Liability covers damage that you do to other people and their property in case an accident is your fault. This will also help protect you from lawsuits from people you injure.

Once you decide what coverages you will need, then you can compare prices.

My two cents, for what it's worth, is to pay cash for the bike if at all possible then just carry liability. The prices that I see people paying for full coverage are way too much, considering what a bike is worth after it is a year old or so.

i am going to pay cash for the bike...i have planned to earn enough money by august for the bike and a year of insurance to start with cause having a job during my first year of college will be a tad difficult.

well after doing a few online quotes im gettin between 300-500 a year by myself...im just fine with that, beats the hell out of my car insurance payment

I pay 3k a year full coverage with Progressive, (BUT they ****ed me over last nite!)

My clutch cable broke, whilst riding (sucks) So i eventually come to a stop and call my ins. (progressive) they say You dont have the Towing,?!?!? WTF!! i pay 3k a year and wouldnt spend $3.00 dollars amonth more? I specifiacally asked for The towing, well regardless, NO TOWING so $75 bucks to get a tow truck to get the bike, whereas it would have only been $7.00 dollars for towing had my Towing been on Insurance.!

End Rant!

Dairyland is also known as Sentry Insurance in texas, and they are wonderful!

IM not allowed to be on their policy after my wreck though, they had to put out about 40k in medical and for the bike. where as i had only paid in maybe 5k total to them.

I am using 21stCentury insurance, basic coverage only (paid cash for bike) and pay about $260 a year.

I am almost 40 with a clean driving record so that helps.
