|  Thinking About Getting Leathers
I have two Joe Rocket textile suits (both 2 piece) - an older Ballistic 3.0 and a Phoenix mesh one. I'd like to get a 2-piece set of leathers. I shopped locally and looked at Dainese and Alpinestars. Both are top quality and while pricey, they're in the range I'm willing to pay. However nothing available locally is remotely big enough for me. A special order would drive the price beyond reason. Ku%%%%ani is a well-known Japanese brand and I stopped at a Ku%%%%ani store. I ended up speaking with Mr. Ku%%%%ani personally. They can make me a custom set of leathers, however we'd be looking at $2700 USD to start, plus about 20%. I might have even entertained this route but the Ku%%%%ani suits don't seem to be as well built and durable as the off the rack Dainese and Alpinestars ones I've looked at. The stitching looks weaker and the zippers are very small and flimsy. So, I'm considering ordering something on-line from Dennis Kirk. I'm leaning towards the Alpinestars GPU 2-piece or the Joe Rocket Speedmaster 2 piece. I'm fairly confident in the Joe Rocket sizing system. Does anyone have either of these suits and can they offer any insight into their overall quality? Any info from bigger guys who might have any of these (or other suits) would help as well. I have a 54 inch chest so sizing for Alpinestars an Dainese might be iffy - the EU sizes are off (apparently I'd have to add 10) and I'm wary about ordering something across the Pacific on speculation - I don't want to have to ship it back. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |
