Default Yamaha FZ6 looking for some info about it

I'm new to this site it looks great so far. I have a question about an 07 FZ6 Yamaha, My son is looking at one now and I know nothing about these sport bikes I have always riden cruisers.... Is this a good bike or should he stir clear of it? Any info good or bad is appreciated about it.

Thanks for the help and great site so far!

And to add to that: It's not really a sport bike per se. Like an R6. Less focused. It's more of a standard. But it's not the most beginner friendly scoot out there. That being said it would do well given the proper levels of maturity and restraint.

That's an old review but it works.

He has riden dirt bikes and a couple of my cruisers before so this is his first sport type bike. He is a level headed kid that doesn't party or carry on and is for the most part a laid back easy going type of person that doesn't care about the fastest bike out ther just wants to not look like a dad on a cruiser is about the best way I know how to put it. His friends have the GSX R600's and such he doesn't like those type of bikes wants a more sit up straight style to cruise with as well as look like one of the guys I guess you could say. Thanks for the input!

It's a great bike, but it is built on an R6 motor, so it should be accompanied by some authentic training and practice. Otherwise, if the ergonomics suit him, I'd jump on it. It's similar to a Bandit, so obviously it's my cup o' beer.

Welcome to M-J. Any reason your son isn't on here doing the asking? We'll steer him straight.

Thanks! The reason he isn't on here is he has no internet or computer at his house LOL. He's here now reading this with me. He bought the bike today and loves it so far. Thanks for the input he might sign up and read on the site when he's at my house.

Heh. That's what I was wearing when I crashed my first bike (plus a helmet). Wasn't pretty.

LOL He will be buying a nice riding jacket and some riding pants. He's a pretty causious(sp) kid I guess he's not at kid at 22 anymore but you know what I mean. He has a level head and has seen what a bike will do if you don't respect it. Our friend is in a chair for life from a bike accident and he has raced and ridden every kind of bike for years and years he was practicing on his new racing dirt bike and hit a stump that he didn't know was there and is messed up good for life now hopefully that will stick in his head and keep him on TWO wheels.

He should definitely get himself some good gear, and sign up for a MSF course.

Gear is there to protect whatever you don't want to lose. Skin and brain material are not something you want to lose...
