Default Justify the GSX-R's Price

I've had a VZ800 for 3 years and once I get out of boot camp, I want to upgrade to a sportsbike. I am absolutely in love with both the styling and performance of the GSX-R 600 and 750, but the price is pretty steep compared to the Honda CBR600RR or some of the Kawasaki bikes. I'm not even looking at the Yamaha R6, because I've heard they've been plagued with problems.

So, all you Gixxer riders with downstairs mix-ups, help justify the cost.

Shanks.

The GSXR has been dominant on the track and in magazine reviews over the last few years. Market economics.

I don't think it's true that the R6 has had serious problems. There was the tachometer snafu, but that didn't affect the ride at all. What else have you heard? I'd buy from any of the big four, depending on ergos.

The GSXR is consistently the best bike in those two classes for performance, fit and finish, and reliability. It’s like comparing a Ford Taurus to a BMW.

The main thing that I had heard about R6's, and this may have been contained in the last generation (I believe M.Y 2001-2002 or something), was that they had a transmission problem with 2nd gear wearing out.

Not that much different in price. The gixxers are usually the target that everyone else is trying to hit.

One of my motorcycle magazines just reviewed supersports bikes for 2008, and gave high praise to the Honda CBR. They felt that the GSX-R, which has been king of the track for several years, has been resting on it's laurels, and Suzuki has not brought out any innovation this year. Honda apparently has brought out something spectacular ... although I don't have the magazine here to quote exactly what they thought was so innovative.

Mostly, Honda seems to have the edge in midrange (real-world) power. Yammy is still king of screaming death power, but the others have been working to get the torque and midrange up.

I love my gixxer, but I've never ridden a CBR, R6, or a Kawi, so I couldn't really compare it with the other 600cc sportbikes. I really like the throttle response of the gixxer, it is very maneuverable, and it has a LOT of grip (with a tire upgrade). You can usually talk down the price, and they're actually usually cheaper than the R6 and CBR600RR, at least in my area. I could have got a brand new gixxer for 8,400 out the door, instead I got it used for a little cheaper. My friend just bought a brand new CBR for 9,000 out the door, so I think the gixxer is actually a little cheaper. The 750, though, might be a different story.

Although the R6 might have better top end, the Honda has better midrange, and the Kawi has better low end, the gixxer has an excellent combination of all three.

I was really interested in the CBR600RR until I sat on one. The GSX-R in comparison seems much lower to me and more manageable. The GSX-R is the cheapest of the supersports in Canada, although here they list at $11999. I saw the black and orange version of the '08 750 yesterday, and what a gorgeous bike it is!

Shanks.
I found the Gixxer to have more things. For instance in 04 the Kawi didn't come with a rear seat cover and the steering stabalizer. The Gixxer in short came with more stuff. Even simple things such as 4 way blinkers. What it came down to me though, was I thought the Gixxer just looked better with the styling. Not just the lines..but the color scheme.

It's a wasp on a gixxer. Look twice, it's cool, eh?

LCA: I bought the GSXR 750 because it was the only 750! I wanted a little more than a 600 could offer, but definitely NOT a 1000. IMO the 750 is the perfect bike for me right now.

What's all this about Hondas being cheaper? My quick search reveals a GSXR 600 to be $200 cheaper than a CBR600RR.

Go for the 'Zuki.
