184 indicated on a completetly deserted road with radios posted at each end and no sideroads.

Bike is a litely modified 2000 gsxr750. Real speed probably right at 170.

I had a chance to open it up a bit more last night ... I had a free stretch of motorway (again, totally legal on the German Autobahn - there is no speed limit on that stretch of road) ... 180 kmh = 111 mph. Actual about 5% lower, so just over 105 mph. Bike still has ALOT of reserve...

At that speed with no windscreen, my stomach and neck muscles were definitely feeling the speed - I need to do some exercise over the winter to get really fit for the next riding season (my bike will be taken out of service in about 6 weeks when we get the first ice ).

An acquaintance tossed me the keys to his 750 Gixxer (a 2000 model, I think) after he finished washing it. He told me to take 'er out and dry 'er off. I did .

It turned out to be one of my very few squidly moments. As soon as I pulled out onto the highway the bike just begged me to rip (My own bike at the time was an '83 KZ1000J).

I started walking it up through the gears, just keeping the front wheel on the pavement. I realized I was overdoing it for a built up area and rolled off the fun handle. A short pause later and I glanced down at the speedo - I was decelerating through 190 km/h indicated.

On my 1200 Bandit, I sustained 205 - 210 km/h for about 20 minutes. My buddy dropped back on his V-65 Magna.

If roads, wildlife and traffic allowed it - that WOULD be the way to tour. Talk about blowing the dust off the adrenal glands - oh yeah and talk about consuming fossil fuels!!!

I don't know. All my racebikes have tachs. Most likely between 140 and 150. on the Thunderhill front straight.

Question 4 U Red. If you get stopped by a cop in a 55 mph zone doing 59.4 (which is 8% over actual according to you) do you think that 8% pitch would work ?

100 mph

I actually deliberately hit 100 just to see what it feels like. I usually stay between 78-85mph on highways (which is minimum for me in the cage).

I think GSX-R's in general just "feel right" at around 90 mph.

I agree! Anything BELOW 70mph, and I can actually feel the bike straining for more speed. The lower speeds are a result a lack of road room, though, since this area is soooo congested, and I'm not comfortable (yet ) zigzaging in and out of traffic at 90+mph speeds on a bike (like I do in my cage ).

Yeah, it's bad out there. I was TDY to Fort Meade, like three times. Drove all over that place. Brought my bike up there once too. Nice country though.

Ft. Meade!? That's where my dad retired from in '89 (EDIT: He retired from NSA, but we were housed on Ft. Meade). When were you stationed here? I stayed in the area afterwards, and I worked on base until '97.

Well, if you lived here, you definitely got a feel for the congestion. But you're right, this is nice country

I hit 149 and then the speedo stsarded going down to 148 then 149 and so on. Although I was still hard on the gas. and going faster.
I did it at 3.30 in the morning on freeway 105 here in L.A. I am very afraid of speed tickets because already got one while breaking in my engine. "Bad luck" the oficer said.

I was there when the Defense Information School moved there in April-May of 1995 for the Army BNCOC school, then again in Feb 1996 on my way to Korea, and then again in March 1997 on my way back from Korea. I worked out at the NSA Gym.

Small world.

Ha! You were there the same time I was working on base. I worked at the Ft. Meade Credit Union from May 1990- July 1997. Most of the DINFOS students opened accounts with us as well, since we were right around the corner. But seeing that you were using the NSA Gym, if you opened an account it was probably at Tower Federal CU, in the NSA lobby (which was where I kept most of my money, since my dad had opened an account there for me while I was in High School).

looks that way but its when no one is on the highway. u cant honestly tell me that u dont open it up when you hit the long, straight stretch of road. I used to drive a certain trip every wknd (for a girl, never do that again) and it included a 3 mile flat, straight lane. I kept saying when I get a car that will go, I'm gonna floor it. I got this bike and it took almost a month, but I opened it up and whew! nice early sunday morning ride.

Yes, I can honestly exactly that. Personnally, I'd rather slow down less in the turns that to let her rip in the straigths. The streets, highways, whatever, even is no soul is present, is NOT the place to speed. Sure, I always go a bit over the speed limit (as I do in my car), and that's because I'm following traffic. Speed like you are doing is what gives motorcyclist a bad reputation, especially for sportbikes. Furthermore that's exactly why insurance rates keep going up.

Feel free to disagree, that's my opinion.
