I have an 88 Katana 600 basket case I'm working on as a project bike. The valves and seats were ugly, so I lapped them using grinding compound and they turned out looking nice. The problem is that the Clymer manual says the valves can't be ground and must be replaced. Is this true? If so, why? My other problem is the cylinder bores. The taper is OK but the diameter is half a thousand inch under the wear limit. Can I safely run a hone through the bore a few times then install new rings or am I just asking for trouble? The manual says to replace the cylinder block when the wear limit is reached but I'm not going to buy one from the dealer and the local salvage yard doesn't have a decent one. Thanks, Bill |
