Default First 600 to 170 (R6) and some great photos

If you've ever heard anyone say they've had their 600 over 170, they were lying or mistaken. Most serious riders know that.

Not 'nymore.

Drool-worthy R6 gallery

These shots make me want to finish that camera rig idea I had.

I don't know, it might not be bad, you can exceed the national speed limit in first gear. Less shifting.

hahaha you can do that and increase the life of your transmission and clutch. Is there even a national speed limit anymore?

Cant you theoretically make almost any 600 go 170 if you put a small sprocket on the back and a big one on the front???? (I know this will kill the bikes acceleration)

No. It's not about gearing restrictions (they're not even close to redlined in top gear and probably do 170 in 4th), but overcoming aero drag with horsepower.

Ya know, as much as I love sport bikes, I've found the top end on the damn things to be the most useless aspect of them. Up here in N.E. we just plain don't have the room to use it with any kind frequency, or some remote semblance of safety. The stuff I like best, power wise, is just good old fashioned, eyeball flattening acceleration. You can use that in sooo many places, and it is an art to use it wisely and efficiently. Oh well, just my 2 cents.

Yeah, but with one usually comes the other, right? They can't really gear a bike like that much lower or it just comes up all the time.

BTW, the Bandit came up on me a couple times this afternoon, TOTALLY BY ACCIDENT.

This thread got me to thinking about something along similar lines, so I didn't feel like making a new thread.

How far off are motorcycle speedometers? After I read "the 1st 600 to go 170," I got curious on how fast mine goes. And, as I'm not planning on going to the salt flats any time soon, and I'm not planning on doing 150+ on the streets any time soon, I just went and looked up what the top speed was. It was kind hard to find but I found a couple sources that claim 167 as the top speed, but that's what was indicated on the speedometer, not the actual speed. I'm curious as to what 167 translates to.

My 2002 Bandit 600S is about 10% high, and my 2006 GSXR 750 is 8-9% high.

I find it very annoying that they can make a 500-pound machine that'll run 9's in the quarter for $10K . . . yet they just can't seem to nail down the technology associated with accurate speed measurement.

Stoidi!!!!!
