Default What Is The 0-60 On K1 Gsxr? And How Do You Ride It Fast?!!

Help!
love my GSXR k1 but can not find out how fast it does 0-60 in. Does anyone know.
Plus, even though the bike storms through at top end. I find when I find that the bike does not kick in as well in first gear until it hits after 5-6 revs.

I was racing a friend at the lights. He had a ferrari F430 0-60 4.1 secs. surely my bike should be able to beat this. what am I doing wrong at the lights!
is my starting technique slow!
I even struggled against a friend who was in his mercedes e320 cdi. A deisel that's right!!!

plz someone help me so I can redeem myself in the biker's world!!

look! I'm not trying to offend mate. But wouldn't you argue that a sportsbike is meant to be ridden hard, hence being a sports bike!
sorry but correct me if I'm wrong!

It only does what you make it do. That's the case for any machine. How about stepping back to a more suitable beginner's bike and actually learning to ride it first?

You're giving us all a bad name and endangering your life.

OK, you are wrong!
Racing cars away from a traffic light is one good definition of a wrekless driver.
Get all your insurance paid up and be sure your next of kin knows where the policys are.

So, you have a friend with a Ferrari, yet you yourself don't have Google?

C'mon . . .

Point is you do offend, you and every other newbe that goes out and buys a high powered sport bike without having the slightest idea of what it's capable of.
You offend because for every 100 responsible riders there is one guy like you that goes out and buys a bike because they think it makes them look cool, and for some reason they feel that gives them the right to go out and break every traffic law on the books, and you know what the general non-riding public sees, ,,,,,,, not the 100 responsible riders,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no, the one they see & remember is the one guy like you.
The really sad part about why they remember guys like you is because when they see you it's usually with your blood & body parts spread out on some road, and they are trying to hide ther kids eyes from seeing all the blood & guts.
FYI, the only person that thinks your cool on that bike is you.

0-60: somewhere around 3 seconds or less

quarter mile: 9.8 sec @ 148 mph

Yes you should definitely be able to beat that Ferrari. You shouldn't practice beating him on the street though. I'm sure you could find a closed 1/4 mile track in your area that you could take the bike and your friend's Ferrari to, and have some controlled fun. Usually they won't allow cars to race bikes, but they'll give you a time slip afterwards and you can compare times. Most of the time you can enter for about $25 or so and get at least 3-4 good runs in. It's really cheap, a lot cheaper than a ticket or screwing up on the street and getting in a bad accident.

Good point , Mike. We have a member that tries to get over to New england Drag Way couple times a season for " Friday Grudge Night ". $20.00 and you can run all night. Good cheap fun.

Default Well Sooorrryy!!

I'm not trying to portray that I go racing for fun around the streets for all the ninkapoops who failed to give me a chance to explain. Thnx for the friendly answers I did receive!

The two, repeat two races I did have, where not in congested main roads, rather than a near dead widely open private stretch of a road near me!
I do not go around breaking speed limits for the fun of it. The whole reason for the msg in the first place was due to a reason that my GSXR seemed to have initial lag in first gear when first taking off. No one seemed to piock that up and automatically presumed I'm doing a fast and furious around the streets!!

Are you launching from a dead stop or roll-on?

Hey man, we're just looking out for you. The statement from this quote is why we thought you were racing around town. ("racing a friend at the lights" kind of implies that you're doing some streetlight drag racing around town).

I've been arrested for racing (in my car) and it's no fun. Too much stuff to go through for a quarter mile's worth of fun, definitely not worth it. Plus, it's a lot cooler to carry around a 1/4 mile timeslip in your wallet, especially if you do it on your bike and get a 10 sec time.

But you should have definitely smoked the F430 and the Merc. My bike has barely any power below about 7,000 rpm as well, but mine is a 600 cc, so that's the reason why. I'm not sure why you have no low-end power, as it's a 1000, so you should have plenty, especially in 1st gear. When's the last time you did a tune up?

I only have experience with a 50cc bike completly different breed... But on any sports bike the power is up top, on any reasonabley sized (read that as bigger then my bike ..) bike you should have plenty of power in the lower rpm's to get moving but you want accelerate like you will in the power zone, the upper rev's...

Working on your clutch control will allow you to "launch" faster but without popping a bit of a wheelie (not the best on the street) it is pretty difficult to really power threw the low RPM's...

In my little toy I find myself at stop lights falling a little behind the car in front because of the lack of power at 4-5000rpm but as soon as I get up to 6-7 I almost hit a switch, the power kicks in and I can power on up to 9 thousand and then shift.

Without skill, racing from a dead start may be difficult but it doesnt take a lot of skill to wack the throttle on and shift, so I would assume if you guys tried a rolling start (just fast enough for you to get in the power band in first gear) then you would destroy most any car...

Welcome Zoanoid ! Seems like you really stirred up the troops. Anyway, you didn't mention what year the 1K was but any recent model will push 60 mph in the 3's, quarter mile in the high 9's and top speeds that you really shouldn't even worry about.

If the Mercedes is spanking you, there's some big issues going on. Clutch or tuning issues come to mind and it just could be you..... ...need more practice . Shy away from the streetracing bud.....in the end, nothing good comes out of it.

Iirc bikes like the big gixxer are geared tall in 1st. Capable of 70 in said gear. Not getting the rpms up will cause bog. But it is also a short wheelbase bike. Too many revs and its riding you. I think a proper launch would involve a lot of very destructive clutch slip. Not something you should do often.

And it's a bike meant for a road course, not the drag strip. Find a local track and sign up for some lessons.
