GEICO...also have 100,000 mile warranty thru GEICO on my Equinox...GEICO is the only insurnace company that provides that and it cost about $60 per year..included in the above total....

Been with Geico since I was 16, now I'm 52....that's 36 freaking years and no accidents!!!! and only two tickets!!!

My business takes me all the way down south towards Texarkana, El Dorado, Camden, Magnolia and I can second the fact that oil rig workers do make pretty good wages. Dangerous work, though. Really demanding. I hope you last being only 18...

Hey VIKING welcome to the forum.

Depending on your driving record, weather or not you took a motorcycle safety training course, and weather or not you want full coverage, will make your insurance premiums vary a lot. I know of a couple of younger riders that chose to ride with no insurance at all, because the cost of one years full coverage was more than the cost of the bike.

So what you really love about Sport bikes is doing wheelies. What's the longest wheelie you've ever done?
Do you just pop the front tire up off the ground, than set it down right away, or are you one of those riders ya sometimes see on the highway that can ride a wheelie clean out of sight?

The cost of your insurance varies a lot with how much coverage you need. If you are financing the bike, the bank will require full coverage. If you are not financing the bike, then you'll have to decide what price vs risk you want to assume.

In my opinion, if you are buying a bike that costs less than $10K, it's not worth the money to pay over $1000 a year in insurance for full coverage for more than a year or two (personally, I'd pay cash for the bike and just carry liability, but that's me).

Buying a $20,000 Harley is another story.

If you are getting quotes of more than $1500 a year for full coverage on a CBR or GSX-R, I'd recommend saving your money for a bit and paying cash for a used bike and just carrying liability.

For the record, the main types of coverage I'm referring to when I say 'full coverage' are Comprehensive, Collision, and Liability. Comprehensive and Collision only cover damage done to your bike if you cause an accident or if the bike damaged or lost in some other way (theft, vandalism, etc). The most money you will ever get from the insurance company in a claim against your comprehensive or collision policies is the *current* value of your bike, which goes down every year. However, even though the amount of money they will pay you goes down by a significant amount every year, your premiums rarely do.

If you own the bike and you are paying for comprehensive and collision, you should evaluate how much it is costing you every year compared to the price of the bike. At some point, as the bike ages, I think comprehensive and collision should be dropped.

Liability, on the other hand, kicks in if you cause an accident that harms other people or property. If you cause an accident, you can potentially be sued for tens of thousands of dollars or more and liability insurance will cover that. It's always a good idea to carry liability.

Why in the world would you concern yourself with insurance? Someone with your kind of skill & nerve, certainly could never have an accident. My advice is to use the insurance money to buy some video equipment, than have your buddies film all your street stunts. Who knows, you could be the next Evil knievel.

Aw-come on, the cops couldn't hope to catch a rider of your skill.

Anyway, why don't you just use the insurance you currently have?

If your referring to me, I hate to bust your bubble, but I haven't been being friendly. I was hoping that by encouraging you, you would have a chance to read what you were writing and see the picture you were painting of yourself.

This isn't a forum where stunting & breaking the law is encouraged.

Riding a wheelie for 6 miles on a public highway, and claiming that cops are easy to out run, is not the kind of thing you will be getting hi fives for on this forum. It's irresponsible, illegal, dangerous, and just downright stupid.

The general public already has a dim enough view of motorcycles, we as a group certainly don't need to be going out of our way to make that image worse. Stunt riding, splitting lanes, and obnoxiously loud pipes are the three most common complaints the general public sites when they start writing letters to there State law makers.

Giving them more fuel for the fire is the way things get started like what is going on down in Florida right now. The current purposed law will give Leo's the right to arrest the rider, impound the bike, and confiscate the DL of any rider caught doing a wheelie, or any stunt for that matter, plus, if convicted, the rider looses his DL for 10 years. If passed down there, it would only be a matter of time before other states started passing similar laws.

If you think this kind of law can't trickle down to you, your just fooling yourself. Let me lay out a scenario for you.

Your out for a nice Sunday afternoon ride on your nice shinny white Road King, You notice there is a cop car following you, you arn't doing anything wrong, so when the lights and siren come on you think he must have gotten a call, and you pull over to let him pass. What you don't know, is that this particular cop just lost his girlfriend to another guy, and the only thing he knows about him, is that he rides a white Road King. The cop, not knowing anything about motorcycles, claims he stopped you because of the mile long wheelie he saw you doing. Even if you wind up beating the charge, you still get arrested, and your bike gets towed.

We, as a group need to start being more responsible. There is a time and place for everything, the place for stunt riding is not on public roads.

If as you said earlier, your only interest in getting a sport bike is to do wheelies, than my advice to you is to do what your girlfriend wants, and buy the Harley.
