| I realized after I made a little money selling my katana for $600 more than I bought it for that maybe buying and reselling motorcycles might be a good hobby to get into. Of course that kid paying $2500 for that 00 katana still has me wringing of guilt as bad of shape as it was in but.... It's as honorable to sell as it is to buy right? Anyway... A local kid here was selling his 98 900 rr. I jumped on a good deal on a ducati but this bike seems to be very well priced and it looks nice too. He's asking $2900 for this bike and I believe it has around 15k miles. Should I jump on it for resell? Something tells me I should, though something tells me I'll want to keep it too. I believe when this bike first came out it was the baddest mamma jamma around but that's just rumor. Whatcha think? Cash in hand $2500 offer? His last deal fell through. ![]() |

| My brother does that with bikes and cars. He has a relationship with a local credit union and buys at wholesale. He skips title registration when he can. Without knowing where you are and what market you're selling it, I can't answer the question. You might make a few hundred, but it's hard to say. I'd offer $2200. You'll end up splitting the difference.

| 2200 eh? I'd feel a bit on the guilty side taking it for that much but since we're talking investment here perhaps. One thing I've learned is bikes are rarely worth the kbb value unless they've got a whole lot of extras and are mint... This thing shows $4850 top dollar retail and for this quick of a ride and no dumps I'm thinking I could pull 4k with the right buyer. I'm in Utah, and come to think of it I'd love to make a living buying and reselling bikes or cars. Of course it'd make a great hobby/2nd job too. Just gotta have the cash liquid. Thanks for the input. |

| Pffft. Guilt? You should just get into charity and be done with it. You said yourself why you need to lowball. You likely won't get KBB. Why should the seller?

$500 profit margin on anything is worth doing to me. My guilt is derived from my upbringing. I like to turn a profit but I don't want to rip someone off hardcore. I suppose if I'm interested in making money that shouldn't concern me, but it does. $500 a turn is reasonable for the effort so.... while I'm a nice guy $1k in the pocket sounds pretty good too. I'm gonna test the bike tomorrow. We'll see. | |

| I feel the same way, but getting a bike for $200 under asking isn't much of a deal. That's where you'll likely be with your original offer. The simple fact is, a bike's only worth what the market will bear. If he's had it for sale for a while, what he can get is what it's worth. It has nothing to do with getting ripped off.

| Right but he's asking $2900. I think it's probably worth that or more. So $200 less isn't correct, it's $700 under asking... Doable, maybe, doubtful. But regarding buying for investment its best to cover your ass. I got extremely lucky on the katana, 1 inquiry 1 sell. That's how it goes, gotta put the right ass in the right seat for the right $. They're out there. Thanks for the input rowdy. |
