Depends on what's broken. If the lever is just bent you should be able to find one and replace for under $20. If the mount is messed up, figure closer to $60 or so. Still small considering the overall cost of the bike.

Make sure that's the problem before you start ordering parts. There are other potential problems that'll cause this but the lever seemed logical to me.

New aftermarket levers are around $25 per set. Easily changed. Cable-actuated stuff is pretty much like changing your ten speed's levers.

The question is: how to know if the bent lever is causing it, or something else?

detach the cable from the lever (might take a whole 2 minutes to do) and check for binding. then reattach and if possible, detach other end of cable from clutch housing - recheck for binding.

Bent levers aside, it sounds like the clutch cable just needs a good lubing.

Question: Have you ever tried pulling on a clutch cable without the lever? I'm guessing not.

answer: not what i meant.

1 - disengage cable from lever and check LEVER for binding
2 - disengage cable from clutch housing and check cable for binding
3 - attach cable only on lever end and check lever+cable for binding

capisce?

sounds like maybe the bike fell over on the left side. Maybe a parking lot bump or something?...and as far as the jetting goes, many times if it is just a "slip-on" muffler and not a full exhaust, the jetting doesnt always need to be adjusted. I doubt it will hurt anything if not jetted, you just wont get any power increase. sounds like a good deal to me tho... New Car Prices | Used Car Values - Official Kelley Blue Book Site does bikes now too...check it out.

reading comprehension lesson time! the 2-minutes referred to figuring out how to detach the cable from the lever without having to take the whole damned thing off the bars, hence it was mentioned after the "remove cable from lever" part but before "check stuff for binding".

don't worry - you'll get it all soon enough!

Ohhh, NOW I get it. You're suggesting that a guy that doesn't know whether or not a lever is bent should disassemble parts of someone else's motorcycle. Yep. I get it now. He should simply remove the entire cable (including the lower part under the cover) and check for binding.
I'm sure the seller won't mind!

Funny, you didn't mention all of those extra steps until I pointed out that removing the cable at the lever end wouldn't do jack squat for you.
