Put your left hand on the handlebar, and your right hand on the rear seat handle. Put your right foot on the peg and push the stand to the ground. Once the stand is in contact with the ground, pust the bike away from yourself. Once pushed away from you far enough you should feel the centerstand on the opposite side too(at this point the bike should be standing exactly straight up from the ground). Then pull up on the back handle and stand on the centerstand peg. I actually had to pull hard enough to bring my legs off the ground. It will pop right onto the stand.

To bring it down; climb onto the seat while its still on the centerstand then rock forward hard. The bike will roll off and the centerstand will tuck back up.

I'll usually leave my sidestand down until I get the centerstand locked.

It's more pushing with your leg than lifting....

Do be careful because you can lose control of the bike and it will fall over....I've come close several times.

And don't try to slide/move the bike around once it's up on the stand, you can pull it backwards and shimmy it around but if it goes forward the look out!

hmm that is where i was getting it all wrong.. I was not allowing the center stand to do the work by allowing the other side fo the stand be on the ground so the entire weight of the cycle was on the one side of the stand.. i will give it a try tonight and let y'all know how it works out..

I had the same problem, because I have a heavy bike too (Bandit 600 weighs about freaking 430 pounds!). But then why even bother with the center stand? It is almost useless: the bike is less stable on the centerstand, and in fact many bikes don't even come with a centerstand. It's just not worth the risk messing with it and then dropping the bike. Forget it! (I'm actually pondering removing the centerstand).

Why a centerstand?

1) Here, most bikes are parked in November and don't move again until March. With the bike on the side stand, you can't fill the tank all the way, and it's also not good for the tires. (Preparing your bike for winter in an area with lots of rain or snow is a science!)

2) The bike standing straight up takes up much less space in the garage, especially during Winter, when it's just in the way.

BTW, my bike weighs in at over 560 lbs, and I can get it on the centerstand without too much effort. It's more a matter of practice than strength...

It's much easier to tend to the chain, rear brakes, rear wheel/tire. Plus you can sit on it and get cool pictures taken of yourself all hunkered down behind the windscreen!

And it's actually much more stable than on the side stand.

Well then... It shouldn't be a prob lifting the bike up on its centerstand. Stand on the lefthand side, put your right foot on the centerstand as a counterweight, and then you pull the handlebars backwards.... Easy pleasy (in theory)

Update: well I figured it out.. the easiest way to do it (as mentioned once above) is to stand on the peg with your right leg and hold the handlebars with both hands. Then put all your pressure on the stand (using entire body weight) to allow the stand to kick the cycle up onto the stand. Don't make the mistakes i did though.. First make sure you are in neutral (DOOH!) and make sure you are NOT HOLDING THE DARN FRONT BRAKE.. boy not doing those two things really makes putting it up on the stand a whole lot easier...

One other thing.......kinda dumb...I use the kick before I pull it up on the center stand....done this at the gas station a couple of times. After I fill the tank I get on and push it off the center stand. Start it up and head out...well try to anyway. Let the clutch out and engine dies... did that a few times... then I looked down to see if I had turned the fuel off or something equally stupid... It was stupid...the kick was still down....

With the proper way to do it, you shouldn't have to "lift" the bike. Go slow at first and ensure that bothe feet of the stand touch the ground. As RookWV says, its more about pushing with your legs than lifting the bike. Push down with your legs on the stand and roll the bike backwards. If it makes it easier try getting momemtum at first (try once first without rolling the bike too much, then push harder to make it roll backwards a bit more).

I've seen smaller ladies do it while beefed up men fail during my MSF course (they showed us how to do it).

I knew it, I knew it !

Just a little ekstra tip, you don't have to put it in neutral. Just pull the clutch and of course, hands off the brake
