When is the best time or season to purchase a Bike????? - Motorcycle-Journal Forums

Hey just wanted to know if you guys maybe had some inside info on when the best time to purchase a motorcycle was alot of ppl told me to wait till winter just wanted some tips thanks.

In Maryland dealers are probably more willing to deal during the winter months, especially on last seasons inventory. They will want to move it in order to get the new models out on the floor.

If theres snow or cold weather; motorcycles can be bought at a steal. Who is going to be anxious to buy a motorcycle when you can't ride it for 5 months?

The worst time to buy a bike is about half-way through spring. This is the time where people are chomping at the bit to get one as soon as possible. The dealers know you will pay more, and if you won't pay much for it they know someone else will......

If you want the best deal, wait until the next year's models come out (late fall usu) and buy a leftover model year. Many times, it's the same bike with just a few tweaks and maybe a new paint scheme. Do your homeowrk to make sure. My wife practically stole an '03 Intruder 800 earlier in the year. The only downside is that if you have to get rid of the bike for some reason, you'll get a lot less for it for the same reasons. The lesson is - never give up your ride.

Late Fall and Winter (through Feb/March), DEFINITELY (for Maryland, DC, VA, & PA area). Bikes always have a good drop in price in the cold months, especially from private sellers. And too, if you're looking to buy a brand new bike (which I don't recommend for your first bike), most of the dealers are having sales to get rid of the rest of their current year stock, as next year's stock has already started unloading.

For private sellers, especially in this area, people are always upgrading their bikes. As a result, they ride out the season, then sell their bikes cheap when it gets cold, so they can buy their "upgrades" cheap as well. I would assume that's the case in most areas, but I've only been watching the market here in this region.

I bought my 95 Kat in December. Got a great deal. Bike prices are definitely higher now, but they seem to be getting a bit better because the season is about 1/2 over. I'm hoping to be able to snag a decent deal when I recover enough from my crash in 3-4 weeks. We'll see what happens.

It's kind of a mixed blessing and a curse for you guys in colder regions. Here in Cali, the weathers usually decent for most of the year. Except for part of the rainy season (thats winter to most of you). So we get hosed on bike prices, plus we usually get the CA models. Which means they weigh more and less performance. Guess I should go to Reno and buy one there. What do you think?
