Question Fun features on new(er) sportbikes?

Heya all!

I'm looking at picking up a new / slightly used (ie.: recent year model) sportbike, but I'm wondering if some of you can help me with the differences (just little things, mostly - nothing drastic).

I've been sitting on a BUNCH of bikes, and some fit me well, others not at all. Would you boys-n-girls be able to help me figure out if slightly older models of bikes would have the same fit / features as they new stuff I've been looking at?

Here's some examples:

* the new Suzuki GSX-R's have gear indicators as part of the display. what year did that start? do other bikes (Kawi / Yamaha / Honda) also have that? years?

* some new (06 / 07) bikes i fit on comfortably, others not at all. when did the size / ergonomics go through significant changes as far as legroom / reach to bars? the bikes that fit me well are '07 GSX-R's, '07 R1, '06 ZX-6R (636), '06 CBR600F4i, '07 ZX-14, and to a lesser extent '06 ZX-10R and '06 Hayabusa. yeah, i'm looking at LOTS of bikes!

* can any of the new / recent bikes have the speedo indicate in both km/h and mph? i'm in canada, so they would show km/h but i will ride down to the usa so it'd be nice if i can switch it to indicate mph.

thanks for any help or pointers you can give! i realize it's a lot of into i'm asking, but these things evolve so quickly, it ain't funny! that and there's a way bigger selection in quebec which is at least a 2hr drive for me, so not something i can do on a whim.
