Default Back seat?

I have a quick question. Looking at pics of some of these new sport bikess, I am trying to figure out about the back seat. On the 06 GSXR for example, there is a just a plastic looking bump, but others have pictures of a back seat. Do you have to buy 1 seperate? or how does that work.

Many riders install what are sometimes called "smuggler" seats, or seat cowls. Very few bikes come with them installed from the factory. The Hayabusa is one example.

You being a new rider won't be buying any of those bikes anyway. Right?

some bikes have a removable shell where a seat could go, and others just come with a solo seat setup. gsx-r's should come with a passenger seat, and might have a shell installed over the seat.

06 GSX-R comes with both a passenger seat and a seat cowl (Hard Plastic bumpy thing behind rider) I ride with the cowl in place most of the time. I think I have had the seat on only twice. Riding is a personal thing for me so I dont want to deal with anyone behind me or be responsible if something happend.

+1 researchjeep

my stepbro has ridden both a gsx-r 600 (stolen) and a 1000 (crashed but rideable) and he just swaps the rear seat out when necessary. I believe the M109 has the same type of rear seat.
