Default What is the widest tire?

I would like to put a wider tire on the my 2005 Katana 750.
it comes with the stock 150/70. How wide can I go on this bike?
I feel the rear tire needs some extra meat on it.

It's more of question of how wide can you go on that wheel. Too wide and you deform the carcass enough that handling and safety suffer. As it is, even a 160 will slow your handling. I wouldn't go any wider than that (160/60).

Welcome!

I believe a 160/60 is the largest tire you can get on that model.

From the Bridgestone sight for the 020 Bridgestone.

Tire Size: 150/70ZR17M/C, Recommended rim width 4.00
Tire Size:160/70R17, Recommended rim width 4.50
Tire Size:170/60R17, Recommended rim width: 5.00

Many riders like the "wide look" from the rear of the bike and there's nothing wrong with that. As "RowdyRed" have mentioned above the key word here is "Handling". If that is not your primary concern then the widest you can go is one size higher. Anything higher there's a possibility of your tire rubbing the inside of your swing arm or the chain.

Conversely, many riders go one size down for better handling for the obvious reason especially on the track.

When I purchased my 03 GIXXER 600 it had a 190 50 17 mounted on it with stock arm. Not sure if that is a stock tire or not.

Your 03 GSXR600 came stock with a 180/55-17. Your bike is going to handle SO much better in the turns w/ the stock size as it has a much rounder profile.
