| I run rotella-t 5w-40, year around in my '01 500R. 22K miles and she still runs fine. Energy conserving oil is the only stuff I worry about. Just find some oil that performs its duties for you and change it regularly.

| *sigh* This again? Mobil 1 15-50. Smoother, quieter, cooler. Better.

| Muscle Biker ![]() | Geoff, if you search the forum you'll find way too many threads about oil. Discussing oil is like discussing religion (or helmet laws). Everyone is right, and no one is going to change anyone else's mind. The discussions go in circles. My advice - RTFM, and use whatever meets the manufacturer's specifications and your wallet. Keep an eye on the service interval, make sure the bike has the right amount of oil in the case.

| Here’s a fairly informative site on oils and filters – without being terribly opinionated or inflammatory... at least a decent place to jump off from... See: Motorcycle Oil and Filters Without getting into what I use (basically whatever Wally World has on sale in gallon jugs...), I’ve used just about every commonly available lubricant on the planet over the years (synth and dino; cars, boats, gas, diesels, street-cars and racers...) and at least for my own purposes have come to the conclusion that for my street bikes, regular and frequent oil-changes are far more important than what’s on the label – assuming it matches the engine manufactures’ specs... I change 3K miles (for any engine with an integral crankcase and transmission -- however, I’ll go 5K with synth if it only lubricates the engine) or 6-months, whatever is first... But at least where cruisers are concerned, these are not high-stressed engines – their closest mechanical relative is the lowly lawnmower, not the neighbor’s high-strung Ferrari... everyone will have to decide what system works best for their scoots...

For 30 years I rode bikes. Then I got a Gixxer. A 750. I came to this forum asking how to do wheelies. Rowdy was the first to say "You're stupid." Rowdy shhhh. I still do them. Cuz I can. He is right way more right than he is wrong. Actually I have never seen him wrong. My posts are fact finding..my posts are discussions...but..not as an Admin..but here..let him be. Sincerely, Jammer

| Agreed...my appology has been sent....my med's have been taken. And Rowdy admitted he was wrong....ok that may have been a stretch. But I appologize nonetheless.

| Man, I'm a troublemaker. Jammer, I have to apologize. You see, I've told so very many people that they're stupid in my own special way that I don't specifically remember telling you. Sorry, buddy.
