I would certainly think your owner's manual would cover that.

Anyone know?

Me too. Hang on a while. There are few new Gixxer owners around lately.

HOLD the button (the one by the light) THEN turn on the ignition. Push the button to change the RPM (it will be indicated on the tach). Hold the button for at least two seconds. It's set.

But it "unsets" when you turn off the ignition.

Maybe you can turn it back on to the preset RPM by holding the button for more than two seconds while the bike is moving or the ignition is on. Can't remember.

And the light should be at the top of the instrument cluster, not the bottom ... poor design in my opinion.

I think the bike comes with something called a "Manual." I remember reading it for mine and saw how to do that. I'm just too lazy to go and get mine out of the cowl.

Yep. My bikes a manual. Clutch, gearbox, shift lever, etc. It's definitely not an automatic.

Really? They arent automatic? Well then, that explains it. I was wondering why my bike was extremely loud when i got up to speed and running rediculously high RPMs. I didnt know that i had to make it shift gears.

The shift light is useless, you can't see it because it's down below all the controls.
IF it was above, it would have been nicer.

Shift light? I don't need no stinkin' shift light!

Real bikers know instictively when to shift!

Now back to your regularly-scheduled forum...

According to my manual (yes, i actually have a manual AND have read it)...the purpose in the shift light is to help limit the RPMs during the break-in period.

But i agree with you, if i am running enough RPMs that the shift light comes on, the LAST thing i need to be doing is looking down at the instrument cluster.

I also agree, it is useless.

The guy's response was two months overdue, but he was the thread starter, wasn't he? Was he not responding to a comment made concerning his question (and a very stupid comment at that)? Someone please ban me before I resurrect one of MY old threads! Sheesh!

Talk to Don, he's got the ban button this week.

And while you're at it ... go call your dentist.
