Exclamation For those with S.F Insurance...

If you have State Farm insurance on your bike and don't have a supplemental insurance policy through them or through your employer, you might want to review your insurance policy.

Coverage may vary by state or may differ between underwriters, i dont know; but i know that even though i have "full coverage", my policy states "State Farm will not cover any medical expenses that arise from a motorcycle accident...regardless of whom is at fault".

They will cover the bike but they will not cover any medical expenses to me or anybody else that is injured in the accident (God forbid).

If you have S.F. insurance, take a look at the "fine print". I would hate for anybody to have a wreck, but it would be even worse if they ended up being stuck with tens-of-thousands of dollars in hospital bills because they were unaware that their insurance wouldnt cover it.

Excellent suggestion, though hardly something new. I've lived all over the U.S. and found that many companies (not just State Farm) will not write medical coverage for a bike.

Than WTF is the point of having insurance if it doesnt even cover your injuries, damn the bike it can be repaired. I have been saying it for years the largest organized crime in the USA are insurance companies and the damn MVA(motor vechicle administration).

It's not that they will not write for the coverage it is that you have to request the coverage. As with car insurance you are required to have it in order to have a policy. With a motorcycle policy you are not required to have medical coverage. You can add it to your policy in most state, what you want to add is called Med Pay. However, if you have basic health insurance you should be fine and this will take care of your bills. My feeling is that adding medical coverage to my bike policy is a waste due to my health ins. will cover any expence.

I don't rely on my car insurance to pay my medical expenses in the event of an accident , only those of anyone I may injure in a wreck. Why should motorcycle insurance be different?
I have medical coverage through work. If I am in a motorcycle accident, will I not be covered? Am I missing something here?

I think if you check a bit closer, you will see that you are not covered, but anyone else injured would be, at least that's what I have, and yes it's with State Farm. By the way the max coverage for medical I can get is only $10,000. I was told that's a state law. Minnesota!
