Chain wax isn't a cleaner, and some say WD ruins the o-rings. Kerosene (though rarely does a streetbike chain need to be cleaned) and Hondalube.

Also, searching would've led you to several threads on this topic.

Wait, I thought KY is water soluable and so by inference, I thought it's water-based. Vaseline is petro (nasty stuff to clean off. That's why I don't use it).

About every 100 miles I spray the chain in 3 directions with WD-40 and scrub it clean. I then apply a moderate amount of Chain Wax. Always clean and lube when the chain is warm (exe. right after any ride longer than 5 minutes).

I have heard WD-40 can wear rings making the chain "stretch," but I have used WD-40 on my bike for over 20,000 miles and it hasn't affected the chain at all.

I can't imagine that WD-40 is bad for the rings (or any worse than pure kerosine), since kerosine is it's main ingredient. However, I've got some chain cleaner and a white chain spray from a local bike shop ... my chain has about 9'000 miles on in and looks like new...

Good grief. I'd be lubing every two hours! Worn o-rings don't cause stretch, but once they're gone the internal lube goes, too, and the process of degradation accelerates.

Kerosene, per the manual. When I'm done, I ignite the remaining dirty kerosene in a pagan ritual practiced only by me.

I just used the kerosene to clean my chain, and it worked great. It now actually looks like chain.
