I have had one for 15 years. Programming info should be on the web somewhere. You also need the special advancer that goes with it. I believe it is a bit different than the regular V&H 5-degree advancer. Can't remember. Regardless, you need an advancer of some type for the box to function correctly. You should also have a pipe and the carbs jetted at a minimum. Otherwise, you are wasting your money. The Powerpak really was designed for seriously built monster or racing motors. You can get basically the same performance on a stock motor using the stock CDI box, adding an advancer, pipe and jetting.

Although I have never had problems with my Powerpak, I have heard a lot of horror stories of these boxes causing problems due to weak circuit boards etc. You might want to try the Dyna Ignition. It is a bit pricey, but totally solid in performance from the racers I know.

If you get it, I have the dipswitch info around somewhere. I'd have to hunt it down though.

What CDI is on there now? I would assume it already has an advancer in there then.

Define "fully built".

Why would he take it off then sell the bike? That was silly. A built motor can benefit from an aftermarket CDI.

1. What type of pistons? What type of compression ratio?
2. What brand of cams and what lift/duration? Are they degreed in?
3. Who ported the head? Was it flow-bench tested?

Just curious.

The Dyna is much better than the old V&H. Besides, if the old V&H gives you trouble, then the Dyna is basically your only drop-in option these days. I don't think V&H repairs those anymore. Even when they did, it took something like six-months for them to fix it. Don't be cheap on the CDI, as it is the electronic heart of the motor.

It comes with a silver-colored advancer. The regular V&H advancers were black. It is a bit different, but I don't know if it really matters.

Buy it, drop it in and see if it helps.
