Default Info for me personally

I've ridden for 27 years now..sport bikes for 10. Has anyone taken their Gixxer to the limit in anyway? I know a strange question. But I'm interested to find what you have found with the revs..for me on a 750 between 10 to 14k. And cornering. What did you learn? Very open question.

Thank you for your responses.

I hit the rev-limiter in 2nd once by accident.

I also (puts on flame suit) wound out 6th to about 160 ONCE!

That's about it, I lean it somewhat far over in the curves (sure feels far over, probably not though, lol).

Of what limits do you speak? Top speed? Cornering g's? Lap times? Quarter mile?

I know..I left it pretty wide open as a question. Let me explain in more depth. I've had my Gixxer for two years now.. over 11k miles on it. After all this time..I never took the revs over 8K. Or that I can remember. I had been considering a liter bike. Trade up...or whatever. Even looked at the new CBR1000 with the new electronic steering dampner. The past weekend...and I never race...a young friend of mine..just kept egging and egging me on while we were riding on the highway. Well I raced..I even won; however, the brute power of the bike, didn't frighten, but I never knew how much power it has. And it is a 750. I asked the open ended question..because most of the riders that are in York...yes they may talk big...but I've asked and each rider hasn't really taken their bike in that upper rpm range it seemed and I asked here. It was like in the old days with the muscle cars where you would stomp on the gas and you just sunk into your seat.

If you aren't even using the available power, why on Earth would you trade up?

I wind the Bandit out at least a few times every time I ride. I'm quite comfortable with the power and have the skills to be relatively safe at it.

By the way, you sunk into the seats in those cars because they had really soft padding. Compared to modern cars, they weren't very fast. A current Nissan Maxima could've beaten most of them. My Mustang is capable of high 14's. Not many models could run 14's in the 60's, and the horsepower figures were rediculously overstated.

Easy answer...why would I trade up? Just for something new now that I am single. I've decide since that race to just stay with my 750. Until I would get used to the power band. I was just amazed..that was really my point..of the power in it. And the Liter bikes have more.

Thanks for the info on the cars.

I understand the desire for a new bike. Just consider shopping for character, not a bigger motor.

Actually I was looking at a bike like tlwisner has. I wouldn't trade my Gixxer..just buy another bike...a cruiser.

Why not? Get the best of both worlds and choose your ride according to your mood.

Sometimes you want to hunch down and ride hard, sometimes you just want to sit up, take it easy and enjoy the ride. I'd like about 5 or 6 bikes.

Which, of course, is why I own a Bandit. It does both quite well.

As does my Buell.

Bill, when we get together, I will have to introduce you to the world of Street fighters. A combination of ergonomics for the week and absolute thrill for the weekends. It's upright position and many of them are geared more for low and middle range power, but still have quite a bite in the upper RPMs.

Ok, now that I tried to sell the street fighter, I'll press on. lol

At 8k RPMs, the Gixxer you ride is only cranking about 80hp. At 12,750 RPMs, it's cranking out 127hp at the rear, probably 150 at the crank. That's ALOT of unused power. That said, you now know how much power you want/need in the next bike you purchase. If I may...

1. Speed Triple
2. Aprillia Tuono
3. FZ1
4. Z1000
5. SV1000
6. XBRR

Ok, I was kidding on that last one. Those are just examples of some upright seated street fighters that could be options.

Most bikes over 750cc will have enough power for you if you don't use all the power on the Gixxer. It's really going to be just preferance from there. You really need to look at what you will be uising it for, where you will be riding etc. The FZ1, Z1000 and SV1000r all have fairings, so that highway riding will be better. The Speed triple and Aprillia are non-fairing bikes and totally nekkid.

Yes Shea the Buell is so kewl. Or so I think. What a fun lookin' Bike! 1200cc V on a frame size so short. Doesn't look like a racer..but pure fun. I saw someone with the liter. A white one. New rider. I mean..just what a neat looking fun bike. I rode the V's..that RC51...it's nice..but the Buell looks like totally fun. As the kids say, "That Buell's gotta be sick!"

Know exactly what you mean!

Gotta tell ya, I was considering an upgrade during the end of last summer when a few friends invited me to a 1/8mi track during test & tune night . After a couple runs down the track on my 600 I found a second love for it; curves are the first . Found it has wayyyyy more power than I would ever use (regularly).

I ran a 8.5 on my first run and I was so excited from the rush that you would have thought I ran a 4.2 from the look on my face . I have no intentions of making mods to be faster (at this point). Just hearin' that engine while trying to keep the front end down is enough to satisfy me for now.

Don't really watch the rpms even though I only cycle through about 3 gears but when I'm good enough I'll start watchin' and tell ya !

This BLACKBIRD was wearin' some folks out one night at the track:

That's what I am lookin' for! You hit that limit. That Edge. Rush? I felt it. My 750 looks as though it is on a 600 frame. Without knowing the exact specs..they look as though they would corner the same..I could be wrong. But...I believe I reached the edge of what my bike would do. It's not something to brag about..but I was looking for another..even just one..that reached that point.

Thank you.

Wanna find a quick love for your 750?

If you have a safe place, start in 1st gear as if you're taking off from the start line to beat somebody and watch your needle climb. When it gets a smidgen close to the redline go to 2nd gear & roll on the throttle (don't let your front end bounce up )...as the needle approaches redline go into 3rd (if you can in a safe place). The fun is watching the needle climb & bounce while listening attentively.

Now tell me that's not the sweetest sound you ever heard your engine make?

Thank you...but I am trying to behave here now lol. Give you an idea..I came out...for dinner..and there were these little kids just..jumping and cheering..lifting their arms...up came the front wheel..for half a block..sit down. As the kids say, "This is gettin' off the chain!" I'm trying be have for pete sake. I have two problems in life...Cigs..and now this. Yet this is a nice problem..or so I think.

Thank you for the tip..but...just wondering what you were saying...my Gixxer 750..if I roll on the throttle..at 8k the front end comes up. I found this when an r6 took off next to me. I haven't really ridden a 600...doesn't yours do that?
