| Ok ok I know the whole insurance stuff has been talked about many times, but I have a specific question or 2 on only this bike. Looking at getting into a SV650s for my around town riding. My questions are 1. How much is your insurance per month? -with what company? -whats your age and marital status? -year of the SV650 you ride? I am pretty set as the sv being the bike for me. Comfortable, lightweight and should be a very good around town and too and from work commuter with decent gas mileage. And would also be a bike that I could take to the track for some track days once in a while. Keep in mind this is the only bike I'm asking about rates for other bikes won't do me any good(not to offend anyone), but just looking for what I should be expecting (ball park) Thanks to anyone that can help.

| I suggest you log on to www.bike-line.com and get a quote. Rates vary quite a bit. You could try www.progressive.com too for online stuff.

| Ditch Magnet ![]() | I'm in VT, am 24, unmarried, one parking lot accident on my record, two speeding tickets (neither absurd) and I am paying $130 a month for my '05 sv650s. I go through my state farm agent and also have my jeep insured through them on another policy, but they both get the multiline discount. I can report back in august when I am 25. the bike IS beautifull around town however I do have some things that you may want to think about: the position hurts your hands after more than 20min riding, at least it does on me (I am 6'2" if that helps) and the throttle is very touchy, both on and off throttle. when you let out the throttle at all it engine brakes like a mack trucks jake brake. I almost never use my brakes cause of the engine braking, almost been rear ended a few times cause my lights dont light up cause I dont use the brakes! however after a couple times the cars will keep a nice distance. you may want to think of ways to raise the bars so its better everyday. as far as power where you want it and the amount of power, well from your profile it looks like you are used to a lot more of it, so maybe it will be a downgrade in that respect, but in all reality I cant imagine needing or wanting much more power than it currently has, I havent seen more than one or two cars on the street that could even get close (I dont race, this is bench stats and such) and even then only with some mods. I personally love the svs and will have it for a long time, though I do need to raise the handlebars.

| Is insurance a lot higher on SV650s than on medium cruisers llike the C50? I did a quote for me, and with the same full covereage, the SV650s is twice as much for insurance than the C50.

| Ditch Magnet ![]() | it most likely is because a lot of the squids are learning on it and crashing and such. plus its plenty fast to get into tons of trouble on. and it costs enough that insurance claims are most likely to be made. there is definately a difference in the way of thinking and deisred riding style between a cruiser rider and a SV rider, even though the sv cruises very nicely and carries a Vtwin motor in its frame.

| Bike- 02 SV 650. Age 56. Not married. Insurance State Farm, $207 per year, full coverage. I think State Farm figures there rates based on the value of the bike, because I pay $268 for my 06 M50 worth about $6000, and $287 on my 05 V Strom worth about $8000. I figure my naked SV 650 is worth about $4000. I have the same coverage on all my bikes. I bought my SV for the same reasons, you want one, and it is a great around town bike. I haven't had a chance to take it to the track yet, but that should happen this summer. The 650 V-Twin motor is amazing, with decent top end speed, (I've seen 130 on the speedo) and lots of torque down low. I can run it in 6th gear at 40 mph, and it still pulls smooth. In a drag race, it will beat my DL1000 up to 100.

| My neighbor just got the same bike, a Suzuki SV650S. We spent all last Saturday riding it around this parking lot near our house to get the feel for it. I've ridden a dirt bike before (looong ago), but this is his first bike. Anyways, to get to the point, I was totally smitten. I thought the cheapest sport bike was about $2k more, and just tooling around the parking lot was fun. I decided to start shopping. Today I went to my insurance office (State Farm) to see what it would cost to get insured. Expecting the worst, I got some very very good news. They quoted me $190 and some change a year (yes, thats YEAR, not MONTH) for a 2006 650 CC bike. State farm does not care what the exact make and model. It works out to about $16 a month. Would be only $23/month for a 1100CC bike (though I don't want anything that high end). This was for a $250 comprehensive & collision deductible. My situation is as follows: -28 years old (past the magic 25 year mark). -have 1 kid. -NOT married (been told that once you hit 30, your rates are the same either way). -have a home owners policy, two automobile policies, and some life insurance with them. -relatively good record (think my last ticket was 5 years ago, not sure if it's even still points on my license). -I've been insured with them for about 12 years now (this is probably a big factor). -My last claim was long enough ago (3+ years) that they give me a 'no-claim' discount. I know for certain that all of these things factor into my price with them. Anyways, good luck with the bike. I've been reading up as much as I can about bikes, and (so far) it seems like the SV650S is a pretty good bargain. |
