In my opinion, unless you are a very experience test rider, they are all as good as each other. The choice comes down to personal taste, some people stick to a brand, or maybe you look at the new R6 and think it looks great from the front, but unfinished at the back....

The choice is yours, make sure you get all the training you can and don't run before you can walk.
Also, get the best protective gear you can afford.

If you want a bike for the track I would definitly go with the 06 R6. Out of the box that this is insane! If you're just looking for a bike for the street, then I think they are all good.

is the r6 going to be any harder to learn how to ride due to the new electronic throttle and the slipper clutch

Harsh, but true. A GSXR or anything over 500cc's is definetly not a beginner bike. Even 500cc's is cautioned against for most beginners, but still seems to be the most popular choice.

Not only are they all probably too powerful. They are all probably a bad first bike because of price. Imagine spending all that cash on a new 06' bike, and wrecking it out right. Not to mention, if you aren't paying in cash/upfront your insurance is going to be more expensive due to financing. Some insurance companies won't even cover you if you finance.

wow, i must of been half asleep! You said this will be your fist bike. Ok, well, if you're not a troll, please take the time to learn on something that is more forgiving than a 600 sportbike. I don't say that to be a know it all, I say that well, to just try and help you give yourself a chance to not be killed or worse, kill someone else.

If you are really considering a new bike let us know, and this will become a great forum for you to get a fun bike that you can learn and grow with and then after putting in valuable time and experince, graduate to a 600 sportbike.

Also, it is very difficult to learn on a powerful bike like the 600s. You will be a much faster rider if you learn on a bike you can control and master. The learning curve is just too steep.

I am sure that Sportrider magazine should have done a comparison. I have no advice other than "good luck"!

They are all equally bad choices as your first bike. Stick with a ninja 250, 500, or a gxsf 500 (right model number?) or a older katana 600. Buy used, upgrade to a new bike after you've gotten experience.

A sixteen year old just got his license. Would you let his first car be a Formula 1 Race car?

If he had prior experience driving track cars/F1 cars, maybe. Otherwise, hell no.

I think the very best bike you can get (performance wise) would be a Ninja 500R (probably late 90's to 2004 model). You don't want 05'-06' cuz they will be alot of cash and considered "new". I think out of all the rides mentioned, the 500R has the best specs on paper. It is similiar to a GS500F in some ways, but a bit faster and the GS500F is air cooled and has only 2 valves per cylinder (Ninja is water.oil cooled, and 4 valves per cylinder i believe).

At a stop light, or in stop and go traffic, an air cooled bike is more likely to overheat. Or so i've read.
