But you can't get your license without ever driving a car. And you can't own a car at 16...so there is NO way it's technically his "first" car to drive or won! lmao.

but i digress, you are right.

Because those bikes are super sensitive to input. They are incredibly fast and powerful, and its easy to get into a lot of trouble with them. (easier than with a smaller bike.) 600s also cost more to buy, and to insure.

Start with a less powerful bike, move up after you've got thousands and thousands of miles under your belt.

Somehow I doubt you know what an awesome rider is. Being able to wheelie does not a skilled rider make.

Corners are the keys to having skills. Not only corner speed, but every aspect about going into a corner, and coming out of a corner is part of it.

Going fast in a straight line, and popping wheelies is not a "skill". Its just childish behavior.

I had two teenage kids come into the dealership today wanting GSXR750 for their first bike, and the parents had no problem letting them have one. But we were sold out and I'm happy to say they may live another day. To much bike for a teenager to start off on as a first bike.

Wow! These people must be MotoGP material, eh? NOT!!!

If you seriously believe that a 600 supersport made these people "awesome riders," may I suggest you cut down on the kool aid and read what people here have to say. Frankly, it gets really old when someone comes in saying they want to get a 600cc bike when this topic has already been beaten to death. I hope you weren't expecting people to offer glowing comments like "Oh, you're so cool!" You sure won't get those comments from me. I suppose you know how to use the search function, don't you? Give it a try. There's more sound advice than you can shake a stick at. You can start with "beginner bike" or "starter bike" as your search words.

Oh yeah, you haven't made it known yet if you intend on taking a MSF Basic Rider Course or not. If you really want to get a good start on riding motorcycles, this class is highly recommended.

Had a kid in my class today who noticed I was looking at bikes online.

He lead me to http://www.sportbikez.net/ and showed me all these GSXR's, Buell's, and Ducati's.

Told me he was getting a GSXR-600 this summer, and the 2006 version too. It'll be his first bike.

I tried telling him it was too fast, and to start out on something like a GS500 Suzuki (cuz' he's dead set on Suzuki). But he was convinced they are too small for him, and too ugly.

The average lifespan of a sportbike rider is 45 days from purchase of the bike. Because there are people who live a lot longer then that, that means a lot do not even reach that number.

Yes, hopefully when he goes to the dealer and gets one they will be out. He is a registered Army Ranger and is going into basic training soon, so maybe in all that time away he will get bored and learn about a good first bike on websites like these. I told him to join a forum, at least to find a few riding buddies at the least...

Hmm... I wonder where that puts a rider who owns both a sportbike and cruiser at?

Being fast on a straight is not that easy either!!! I went to a drag strip last Friday, and saw a guy on a modified Busa eat it after he passed the 1/4 mile mark. He must have been a newbie. After he passed the 1/4 mile, I saw the break lights come on, and the bike layed down to the left side. He must have hit the rear break too hard and locked it up. Not that there was a reason to hit the breaks at that point - he had half a mile to stop. He went down at 127 mph....... and then up in a helicopter....... didn't look too good....

Probably the front brake. Locking the rear usually ends up in a highside.

From simply watching TV drag racing I notice most people choose to coast and let the wind slow them down. Do they have parachutes for bikes? lmao

Rowdy - you are right!! He ended up tumbling all over the place and so did his bike....
4w4k3 - no parachutes for bikes!! That would instantly make them unstable - the rear end would swing from side to side - if you watch - it does that to cars...
