Default Motorcycle Alarm

Just finished installing a Gorilla 2 way paging alarm system on my bike, and it’s definitely worth looking into. For those of you looking to protect your investment with some type of alarm system, and looking for the best bang for your buck, this alarm has most of the features that the more expensive units have. The Gorilla unit features tilt & shock sensors, a voltage monitor, and a 2 way-paging unit good for up to 1/2 mile. All sensing units can be disabled as well as sensitivities adjusted, and the alarm unit hooks right up the + & - terminals on the battery, no splicing into your wiring harness. Here is the link where I purchased it:http://www.motoleather.com/59-0003.html

I'll check that out. Thanks. How's the range?

Where did you put the main box on your GSXR? Is there enough room?

Ok, I have a 2004 GSXR 1000 so the mounting on different years might be a little different. I mounted the alarm unit vertically on a vertical plastic section on the interior OEM under tail, with 120db siren facing the tail section. I mounted it here, because the siren was less baffled, and the trunk cover, which contains a seam, for locking helmets up, allowed for greater volume. I custom cut a bracket from sheet aluminum for the tilt sensor, because it is recommended that it be mounted on a vertical surface, level, when the bike is on the kickstand. Therefore, when the bike is moved to the riding position, the sensor is moved greater than 30 degrees, and the alarm is triggered. I’ve designed the bracket so the alarm is triggered at only 10 degrees, it has a hair trigger . I also modified the LED verification light. The stock LED is huge and reminds me of a ugly nipple . So, I bought two very small 3V LED lights and mounted them within the taillight assembly. What you have to do is use a dermal tool to cut along the seam of the taillight, where the red lens and the black housing meet. Then unscrew the chrome insert and tape it up completely with 3M blue painter’s tape, this will protect it, and will prevent the chrome from chipping when you drill your holes. Once I mounted the LEDs, I sealed up the tail light assembly with plastic epoxy, and once dried, silicone to prevent water from getting in. And, yes the alarm system does monitor voltage, in the event the bike is hot wired, the voltage monitor will sense the drop in voltage and sound. I have some pics so you can get a better idea of what I’m talking about.

Hi Jerry:
Thanx for the in depth description!! It sounds like a great way to secure the bike. I live close to Daytona Beach and during bike week and biketoberfest all the pros are here to steal what they can get....

This might be the right alarm for you. The only drawback, I'll be honest, is it doesn’t prevent the bike from being started, but it will recognize an attempt to be started, and activate. It is VERY easy to install, and has all of the same features that more expensive alarms offer. I concealed ALL alarm wiring with the black, corrugated, conduit you find installed on all automobiles, the kind that is cut along the side to make it easier to install wiring. This way it will be more difficult to identify the wiring. And the full adjustability of the alarm's sensitivity is awesome. Mine is set on the most sensitive, there are 7 levels, and if you just tap the tail section with one finger, the alarm will activate or issue a warning chirp. I was in my shed when the wind caught the door and slammed it shut, causing the alarm to activate. Another great point is that there is only about a 3sec delay between the alarm activating and the remote pager notification. I think that this alarm rocks! It is great piece of mind for me, because my bike is kept in a 12X12 shed, where it is chained to the concrete foundation, kryptonite rotor lock on the rear wheel, handle bars locked, and now alarmed. IT ‘S EXCESSIVE AND I DON'T CARE! Good luck and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Those are the drawbacks of owning a bike that weighs 370LB.

THey do that with 1200LB Harleys... That's why it is so important to always park in a location that has security during these events.

how do you toss a 1200lb harley in the back of a truck? I mean I've seen some of the biker guys, but you'd need 4 people to do that and not kill the bike. then again 4 people is not hard to fit in a truck, with 2 of them holding the bike in place behind. I guess its not that hard. factor in ramps and lowrider trucks and its easy. How about install a feature that turns the bike off after a few minutes and tells them that it will explode, then have a button on the bike to activate a small c4 charge placed in the center of the seat....... sure you're bike is now gone, but it was gone the moment they saw it, now they are gone too.... maybe a bit extreme, how about just a spike that shoots up through the seat? high voltage shock through the handlebars? automatic full throttle without brake function? tear gas spray from behind the instrument cluster?

I told you - 10 guys lift the bike up, and then they are gone in the crowd - the noise is unbelivable - imagine thousands of bikes with loud exhausts - you can't hear hardly anything....
I like all your suggestions though - high volatge up their a** - c4 - handlebars like BLADE (you know - theones that cut your fingers off if you are not the owner...)

Not even a Harley weighs 1200 lbs.
