Default HELP: fuel injection error!!!

Hey guys...long time.

Well, I had the SV taken apart over the winter, and now that I've reassembled it. My 'FI' light comes on. Heres what happens: I turn the key, the pump primes up, and the bike fires up. It runs, the throttle response is crisp and tight, then it just dies and my red light comes on, above that says "FI" and where my odometer normally reads my milage, it says..."FI"!!! Then it wont start. I realized at work today that I forgot to put my fuel pump O-ring on, so I came home and did that, and it's still mess up. A little help please before I load it in the truck and take to to the dealer. THANKS A LOT.
Mike

Sounds like something is timing out. Sorry I can't help you, I have no idea what it is, but when you find out, let us know. Sounds like it could be the perfect anti-theft device.

ha HAAAAAAAA!!! Got it!!! The third or fourth time I took the tank off last night, I tore the pump and filter out and hooked the pump up to the fuel delivery line, and hooked the electronics up. The pump primed up, then I turned it over for a second, pulled it off, and noticed the nasty brownish black varnish draining from the pump. I shook the pump for a few minutes, and tried siphoning the bad gas out of the pump. After I got very familiar with the taste of gas, and hooked everything back up, the bike fired up, and I went out riding last night. I never considered about how much varnish and gunk would build up in the pump over a couple of months. Next winter, I think I'm gonna leave everything on the bike, as opposed to tearing it apart...

the gunk and varnish is from the gas breaking down. Basically the additives come out of solution and settle. You really want to store it, try Sta-bil.

Yep, put some fuel stabilizer in the tank, shake the bike, start it up and let it run a few minutes before storing for winter. Didn't have any issue with my SV Fired right up on the first try after almost 4 months of hibernation.

+1 for the fuel stabilizer .. I buy the 16 oz at walmart, add it to the lawn mower gas, the chainsaw gas, and the bike gas for storage ... the stabil stuff even has a measure thingy on it, it makes it easy. no problems with it at all.
