| Muscle Biker ![]() | w33dish ... thank you for your valuable contribution to this thread. I'm sure the mods will be along soon to ban you. If you want to learn to wheelie, there are other forums that focus on stunting. Motorcycle-journal.com is a family-oriented forum which highlights safe riding techniques. Wheelies are not a safe riding technique. And to quote another thread on this forum ... if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand. Anyone who rides a motorcycle regularly KNOWS how to get the front end up. If you haven't figured it out yet, then you don't have enough experience to even try doing a wheelie.

| Tuma, I won't bust your chops for the question. You've been registered for a few months and your questions haven't been over the top so I give the benefit of the doubt. You'll get roughed up though because too many of us see ppl pulling stunts on public roads and it's a quick way to get hurt, hurt someone else or simply get killed. It's a great way to damage your expensive bike as well or in some cases damage your engine (too much time up in the air means no oil where it counts). If your still dead set on it, get on yahoo and look for some stunt forums. Just please dont' stunt on the roads.

| Tuma, aside from my calamari reference, there is a perfectly good explanation of why you cannot find answers to your wheelie question. You see, this forum is safety-oriented. The admins, moderators, and members pride themselves in safe motorcycling practices. Therefore, wheelies (and other forms of stunting) are not conducive to safe motorcycle operations. If you are set on learning how to do wheelies, google is your friend. I would advise you, however, against performing such acts on public roads and highways as it can pose dangers to you and others around you. Why the calamari reference, you ask? It's better to eat squid than to be one. Ride safe!

| Have I ever done a wheelie? Sure, but do I purposely do wheelies on the street? Nope. Wheelies on the street are just asking for trouble. If you are that set on learning to do them, I would sit down with a good instructional vid, take it to a vacant lot or a race track and learn from there. Atleast if you get hurt, you won't take out innocent bystanders in the process. I am not being an *** by saying that, just trying to look out for you and others. The first question to ask is how long have you been riding for? There are alot of things to learn on a motorcycle, so prioritize what is truly important, like slow speed maneuvering and hard braking. To me, controling the bike well at low speeds is more impressive than riding a wheelie. |

| BTW, hate to say it, but doing a wheelie on your 600cc Katana will take some skill too because it doesn't have the power, in most cases, to do a roll on wheelie. This makes it even more dangerous.

| Any rider with half way decent riding skills can get the front wheel off the ground on any motorcycle. It doesn't make you, or your motorcycle anything special. Learn how to ride well, that will get you more respect than any stunts you can do. The bonus to learning how to ride well, is after you do, the stunts will come naturally. If you try to rush it, your just going to look like a fool, even the little kids will be laughing at you. Your 600 Kat is a very capable bike, in the hands of a good rider it will always stay near the front of the pack. The guys that are riding the bikes that are considered the "Top dogs" you know, the ones that are supposed to be the fastest bikes out there, those guys always feel like they have to be at the front of the group. They don't want to be teased if a "Slower" bike is keeping up with them, or, God forbid is able to pass them. Those guys are always easy to spot, and a lot of fun to mess with. They will be insisting that your bike is not stock, because you shouldn't be able to keep up with them. Don't be one of those guys, ride at your own skill level and learn something new every-time you go out. When you do become a good rider, you will know it, and so will everyone else, and you won't have to be pulling wheelies all the time to prove it. Learning to ride a motorcycle is a lot like learning how to play Chess. The moves are easy, being good at it takes time, and practice. A lot of time , and practice.

| I'm a big fan of wheelies, and I don't believe they're inherently "stunting". They happen when a powerful bike is throttled up just a bit too far, and I've been known to liken it to taking off in an airplane. I really miss flying, so maybe that's why I love to wheelie. I don't ride wheelies, I just let them happen naturally. about 45 degrees is all I'm comfortable with. As Inspiron mentioned, it comes with lots of experience. If you're trying to wheelie a bike before you have the skills to handle the bike on two wheels, you're asking for trouble. After that, enjoy. Yuma, I had a 750 Nighthawk before the Bandit, and I couldn't get that thing to wheelie for anything. It's just not in the cards for some bikes. Sure, it can be done with a bunch of clutch and a whack of the throttle, but that type of wheelie kind of defeats the joy for me. It needs to be part of the ride and not a chore. Don't worry about it for now. You'll find much more satisfaction in developing your cornering and braking skills.
