| Puddle Runner ![]() | After 5100 miles and 9 months, I sold my 2000 GSX-R600, as mentioned in my previously posted thread a few days ago. On Friday 03 MAR, I drove three hours north to Fort Worth, Texas to pick up my new 2003 GSX-R1000. I am confident in describing it as "new", because as you may be able to see in the pictures, the bike is immaculate. It was owned by a 39-year old nationally-recognised motocross champion.. so I can be sure that the bike was babied and maintained. Just looking at it, with 10.500 miles on it, makes it hard to believe that the bike still looks like this. Two Brothers exhaust, new Dunlop 208 tires, fender eliminator, turn signals replaced on front and back, rims painted silver to match bike. He included two extra windscreens, the stock exhaust, a set of $400 upright bars, and all the parts he took off of the bike. I just ordered 'pads' for the tank, gas cap, and triple clamp, new blue headlight bulbs, and a couple other slight mods. This is my second bike, and I definitely could not be happier. Thank you to all riders in the aforementioned thread who led me into making this decision, because otherwise, I may have chosen the other bike I was considering.. eck. -- The jump from a 600 to a 1000 is something that I am still getting used to, but I am just set on remembering that I cannot ride this bike the same way I rode the last one. Keeping that in mind is priourity, so that my wrist doesn't get me into trouble or danger. My first ride on the Gixxer 1k took place in a parking lot, starting from square one, to practice basic riding and maneuvering all over again. Bigger engine, lighter bike, different handling, slightly different braking! A couple questions.. I can't decide whether this Two Brothers exhaust is a full system, or just a bolt-on can. On the lower part of the exhaust pipe before it goes into the fairing and under the engine, it is discoloured.. you know, the rainbow-effect that happens because of the heat [right?]. Is there any real way to tell whether it's OEM or not? No Power Commander on this one [yet], but right when I first heard the bike running, the idle seemed a bit low. I lifted the lid and adjusted the idle a tad higher, but it chugs just a little bit at any setting; the idle isn't completely smooth. Is that normal, or might I be running lean because of the exhaust? Bike runs fine, but in first gear, somewhat chugs along while I'm riding at low speed.. then I get the RPMs up a bit, and I'm good to go. [My previous bike was carbureted, obviously. FI on a bike is new to me.] I appreciate the continued support! Feel the taste of freedom; ride on wind! Last edited by ForbidInjustice; 03-07-2006 at 01:37 AM. |

| One nice lookin' ride. A decent owner makes a lot of difference in the condition of a used bike.

I put about 4800 miles on mine in a little over 3 months. Nice nike. I love the "classic" GSX-R's. | |
