| Puddle Runner ![]() | Yep, gone. I've had it since May 2005, and I'm ready for something else. I've been trying off an on to unload the bike since November. It wasn't too emotionally hard to get rid of this Gixxer, even though it was my first. A female soldier bought it after I listed it in the paper. She lives right across the street, and didn't even know it. That made the delivery much easier! I bought this bike for $4000 back in May, and sold it today for $5200. Hey, I busted my tail and broke my back with the polish job on that frame; I deserve to make a few bucks off of it. I'm just happy to have the cash in my hand and the flexibility to basically buy whatever bike I want.. paid for in full. I'm ready to move up in class, and have my eye on two 2003 GSX-R1000s. Of course, I'm not going to buy both.. 1) $7000, about 3 hours from home, near 10k miles, never been dropped, Two Brothers exhaust can, stock can, painted silver rims, set of upright bars [extra], brand new Dunlop 208 tires, spare windscreen incl., meticulously maintained by a 39 year old rider who knows what he's doing. 2) $6800, about 3 hours from home, 1700 miles, dropped once.. frame repaired and painted nicely with an extra coat of black, black/black paint job, vortex frame sliders.. the rest of the bike is stock, though. No information on the rider himself, although he sounds knowledgeable. I am looking more and more at number 1. 200 bucks extra means nothing, because there are the other things that are included, which make up for it. He also has ramps, which will make the load easier. Although the high point of number 2 is the mileage!! 1700 miles? That's just about a brand new bike. Black/black paint may be a little more dangerous at night.. and definitely no fun as far as colour. Any comments? I have to make up my mind on Thursday, 02 MAR. Pickup day so far is planned on Friday. I'm going through biker withdrawal right now... I can't believe I have to drive the TRUCK tomorrow, in this nice, but abrupt, Texas 80° weather! Ride on wind! |

| Muscle Biker ![]() | If I was in your position, I would definitely go for number 1. A 2003 bike with less than 2000 miles that has had the frame repaired raises alarm bells in my head. The first bike is, from your description, a much better deal. Lots of accessories, good maintenance. 10K miles is nothing - the bike should run 80 to 100K if you take care of it.

| Puddle Runner ![]() | The #2 bought it when there was 950 miles on it, and I guess that's all the first owner rode it. It's a digital odometer though.. I wouldn't think that something like that could be falsified, except if someone switched out the whole panel, which makes no sense to do with a low amount of miles on the bike... he took the spill himself and had the framework done, so it's not hearsay or anything. I spoke with both of these guys on the phone.. the one I talked to about this bike said that he was sold the bike from a dealer that thought there were 9500 miles on it.. but in fact it was 950. He couldn't believe it himself ... 950 miles is insane for a 2003.. etc, etc.. .. still thinking, still debating. I was planning on dropping $1000 on either of these two bikes [Scorpio alarm, exhaust, little accessories here and there].. so right now, I'm concerned only about the bike itself.. the #1 guy says that he won't be crushed if he doesn't sell the bike. That's why he's more firm with his price. The 1700 miles on the other one is still drawing me more and more to it. Why exactly does the low mileage raise an eyebrow? Thanks for the continued responses! |

| My friend, 1,700 miles on a three year old bike is definetely a "red flag"; specially if they've had to fix the frame. It could well be that the bike was "damaged" and just sat like that for a very long period of time, or that it took a very long time to fix. How do you know the unit was not damage in a fall and a new unit was put on? It was damaged ... you said so. If it was me I would go for #2. Ill rather have a mint bike with a well broken-in engine than a 1,700 engine that nobody knows what it has been through. I don't ride a lot due to weather in the northeast, yet I manage to put about 3,000 on a year. 1,700 makes you wonder how often was the bike used ... or if it could be used at all. BTW, remember an '03 bike could have been sold on '02. So the bike may well be four years old. 1,700 miles is definately not normal. My $0.02. Last edited by SERGE; 03-02-2006 at 09:57 AM. |

| Puddle Runner ![]() | .. and well appreciated. Bike being damaged, and then sitting a long time.. makes quite a bit of sense, and very probable. I'll have the rest of the day to read other responses and make a decision, but due to my eyes being opened a bit further, #1 is looking more like a winner. Attached is a picture of the #1 bike [10k miles, silver wheels, exhaust, etc]. |

| If you can verify that the frame was competently repaired, you should be able to buy that bike for a grand less. It may be worth it then.
